It doesn`t say setup.exe it just says setup.

You right click on the Iso file and chose Open with Explorer

If you put the 1803 Iso file on a usb stick, then plug in the stick and open it with explorer and click on Setup.

Both ways will do the same thing.

Have you perused the installation log files to find out more details for the failed installation?
While I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable without doing more research I would not know how to do this. If you'd like to direct me to the logs I will look but I have done pretty much every "fix" that is recommended. Dism and SFC found no integrity violations at all. Check Disk completed with no repairs. So it seems to me the computer doesn't have any issues in those areas that would effect this. So what does that leave? A driver? AFAICT there has been zero changes in any drivers in ages. So this update decided that a driver that didn't interfere with any other upgrades would now cause a problem? If so, that's ridiculous.

Its clear this upgrade is a hot mess. It has failed repeatedly on a computer that had no issues with ANY previous upgrades, has had zero changes (no new programs, etc.) since 1709 and is about as bare bones as it gets yet it can't install the latest and greatest.

Thanks. Really not sure what else to do at this point and now it seems WU is messed up as it gives a message that an update couldn't be installed because another one is in progress try restarting (or something like that I am going by memory) . So now I've probably messed up WU which despite not being able to install 1803 was working for other updates.

edit: Failed again after doing the series of DISM and SFC steps. Now I get a different error, 0x80240034 which I saw mentioned somewhere. Quick research shows WU may be messed now so won't get any updates. Just wow at this point.

A Clean Install is always the best bet, especially if this was an Upgraded Machine and never had a Clean Install.

That being said it would be a good idea to post a Speccy Chart of your pc so that all here can take a look at exactly what is going on. Include the Models of any pc's in question please.

I find Microsoft literature to be bad on my ADD, so will leave another link to Prep for Upgrades.

Please make sure you have run THIS TOOL, and run it more than once please. Pay close attention to what it tells you. Some Upgrades are prevented simply because your BIOS is out of date.

I see for the computer in your specs, there is no New BIOS Available. That is an old pc, though should be capable of Upgrading, it may not in reality. It is also not on the List of 1803 Compatible HP PC's! which is not always accurate but tells us more. I also don't see anyone with the same issues you are having on THAT pc, so I assume it is some of the others you are having issues with.

The one in my specs is my desktop and it upgraded just fine. As did two others, both laptops. The laptop having the issue is a

    Gateway NV56R06u

    Intel B950 Processor
    Intel HD Graphics
    500 GB HD

While it is an older computer, all mine are from the same general timeframe. Two were originally Win 7 (desktop and the problem laptop) and two were originally Win 8 (one may have been 8.1). I am 100% confident the Gateway should be upgradeable to 1803. It has upgraded to every version on Win 10 starting with 1511 with no problems. The computer is ready for the upgrade, its just failing to install.

None of this matters: "general timeframe" "It has upgraded to every version on Win 10 starting with 1511 with no problems." the only thing that matters are the facts. This is just your observation and means nothing to the computer upgrading.

What country did you get it in?

Please post the Speccy Chart, download and run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

Other than that I got nothing. If nothing else works I would backup everything and do a Clean install. Make sure you have another fallback if 1803 don't work.

I have run the WU troubleshooter. Its not just the built in update failing its also failing trying to do it manually. I have done EVERY Quick Fix. Every DISM and Scannow and Check Disks come back with no errors. The computer is fine. Its the update that is messed. This computer should upgrade, plain and simple.

I gave you the pertinent specs not sure what else you need. The computer is stock, nothing has been added. It has 4GB ram, the hard drive has 366 GB free. I don't do anything on it but surf the 'net. It doesn't even have a GB of my files. The computer literally has nothing but Chrome, Malwarebytes and CCleaner and the built in programs. The update is failing for whatever reason not because the computer can't be upgraded.

A clean install will have to be done at some point unless MS fixes whatever is wrong. The issue is theirs, not mine. It upgraded every other time including from 7 direct to 10 and YES that does mean something. This update is messed up for many who are having the same issue. Hopefully MS fixes whatever they did wrong with the next one.

And are you sure you've nothing extra plugged in anywhere?

Yes. Other than the AC adapter. I'm not trying to be flip but I've said it numerous times, its a stock laptop that has literally a handful of programs on it. And I did disable Malwarebytes just for the heck of it and the upgrade still failed. All three other computers upgraded with MBAM so of course that is not the issue. I also said it before but since it upgraded to 1709 last year nothing has been added, no drivers have been changed etc. So MS has something in this upgrade that is conflicting that didn't before. And based on the fact that my three other computers are essentially the same (stock, with similar specs) and they upgraded fine leads me to my conclusions. I am not going to mess with registries and all the other things that some would do to resolve an upgrade not working issue. As I already found out I will just create more problems (WU is now probably corrupt based on the 0X80240034 error I did not initially get.)
