    Clean Install Partition Question

    Hi,

I just did a clean install of Windows 10 Home x64. After watching a few YT videos I am now a bit concerned.

After selecting "custom installation" I get to the drive screen. I have an SSD and an HDD for data. The HDD I left alone and for the SSD I deleted all the partitions until it just said "Drive 0 Unallocated Space." Then, instead of clicking next and let Windows handle it like they do in all the YT videos I chose that drive and clicked "New." This created Recovery, System, MSR, and Primary partitions. There was a pop-up that came up after I clicked "New" to adjust the space but I did not do anything with that. I clicked the primary partition, hit "Next", and proceeded with the installation.

My question is should I have highlighted the drive when it was in "Unallocated Space" status and proceeded from there? Was it wrong to click "New" and make the partitions myself? I have everything set-up and am now wondering if I need to do another clean install.

The only issue I see is the partitions you created may not be what Windows wants for its System/Recovery uses.
One of my installs using a bare/unpartitioned HDD:

When you click new, Windows creates the partitions it wants. You are fine, it will work the same either way.

Okay whew, I was freaking out a little. The only thing that concerns me now is that I have a secondary SSD that I use for storage which is assigned Disk 0 while my primary boot drive is assigned Disk 1. Maybe it was like that during setup I don't remember but shouldn't my boot drive be Disk 0? Also in my bios it has for boot priority the proper SSD at the top but it lists it as there as "Disk 0 Toshiba."

You have to make sure that Disk 1 is connected to Sata port 1 on the motherboard.

It should then show up as Disk 0 in Disk Management.

Then I would arrange you other drives so they show up in alphabetical order in Disk Management. Don`t change their letters, just put them in the correct order on the motherboard.

C Disk 0 Sata port 1 on the motherboad
D Disk 1 Sata port 2 on the motherboard
E Disk 2 Sata port 3 on the motherboard

    Etc, Etc

Also, the Boot Priority in the Bios has nothing to do with the order that your drives will show up in Windows.

And personally, I disable all the other drives in the Bios except for the boot drive and a dvd drive if you use one.

This will not affect the drives at all, they will still show up and run fine in Windows.

How would I make sure that disk 1 is connected to SATA port 1? I cannot open up the laptop as they have made it very difficult to get inside. I don't understand because it came from the factory with the SSD that I put the OS on (Disk 1). Then I installed an SSD into where the cd drive was (Disk 0). That is a slow SATAII port. I see how to change drive letters but not how to get them in the proper order. Also if I do change disks (C drive to disk 0) and it ends up being the wrong SATA port will that be bad?

The PC is working fine this is just confusing.

Ah, I did not know it was a laptop, you did not say it was and it`s not in your specs.

I guess there`s nothing you can do about it, and I wouldn`t worry about it.
