    Windows 10 1803 update(s) after upgrade to 1803.

    Configuration:
    Windows 10 Home x64 v.1803 (Cum. Update 2018, May)
Digital license obtained via Windows 7 Home Premium x74 OEM upgrade to Windows 10.

    Status:
All (cumulatieve) Windows 10 updates succeeded, including v.1803 (May,2018) major update.
No issues after this cumulative update.

    Problems:
    a. After the v.1803 Cum. Update, Windows 10 Update offered additional update(s) on v.1803.

    b. The PC was not accessable after 24 hours. Closing the PC normally not possible.
The screen shows a black screen, the cursor can be moved and is presented as a circling blue dot.

    c. Update procedure and restart Windows 10 manually aborted after PowerOff the PC

    d. Start up windows 10 by PowerOn, initial screen shows up, with circling indication, some time later
screen is black, when moving mouse on the pointer position a blue circling dot is visible (same as ad.b, above)

e: 2x 24 hours time given, nothing happens, just circling blue dot on screen.
    Power Off of PC.

    f. Windows Media Creator Tool for v.1803 was downloaded on USB-stick. The USB stick can be used
for Installation of Windows 10 on a PC with valid license and can be used for recovery in case of
problems. PowerOn PC with the USB stick. PC starts up via USB stick, select Recovery/Repair/Handling
    Problems (select not installation).

    g. In Command Prompt mode with Admin Rights
    Enter: diskpart shows
    - HD Volumes, USB stick, (DVD drive and others)
    - NTFS file structure
    - Healthy condition all drives
    - the drive letters of the System Drive C:\ and others are changed
    - command prompt usb-stick: X is shown also with other drive letter

    h. sfc /scannow
    no errors, healthy

    i. no restore points are available for Windows 10 repair.
It shows that this has to be activated by the user, it is not active by default.

    My Question:

The StartUp of windows 10 does not work and is interrupted.
    How can I solve this issue/problem ?

Thanks in advance for your help, comments
    Rgds

Hi, I'll just ask questions for clarification and make a couple of comments.

All (cumulatieve) Windows 10 updates succeeded, including v.1803 (May,2018) major update.
No issues after this cumulative update.
    i. no restore points are available for Windows 10 repair.
It shows that this has to be activated by the user, it is not active by default.
This is normal. System Restore is turned off after an upgrade and all previous restore points are (as they should be) deleted.
    - the drive letters of the System Drive C:\ and others are changed
    - command prompt usb-stick: X is shown also with other drive letter
This is normal. The drive letters will be different as viewed from an offline command prompt (=with Windows not running).
Please confirm you mean that after the initial build upgrade you could boot up and log in as normal.

Your reference to 'cumulative update' suggests you also received an update as well as the upgrade, and could log in suggessfully. Is that correct?

    Problems:
    a. After the v.1803 Cum. Update, Windows 10 Update offered additional update(s) on v.1803
    .

I read this to mean that after the upgrade and cumulative update, you received a further update, when your problems began.

Finally please confirm your PC does not now boot to a login screen.

What puzzles me is that a common problem is this:
We just upgraded few systems to latest build that 1803. But after upgrading to this build - facing BLACK screen issue after login.
    - whereas your description implies you can't boot to a login prompt. Is that correct?

    Example:
Stuck at black screen with spinning circle on boot after 1803 update - Windows 10 Forums

Thanks for comments / I provided this info to show it looks OK.

    Answer:
I received the upgrade 1803, which worked well.
Last week I received additional update(s) on v.1803.
    Answer: YES

    - whereas your description implies you can't boot to a login prompt. Is that correct?
the windows screen on which I login and provide password, does not show up.
The screen is black, so no nice monitor picture, no clock, no date
The mouse pointer is active as a blue circling dot.

    Example:
Stuck at black screen with spinning circle on boot after 1803 update - Windows 10 Forums
This looks the same. The topic-starter can come into safe-mode, I cann't.

I use USB-stick with W10-v1803-x64, created with microsoft media creation tool, no chosen install on this PC, but other PC, selected no ISO, no DVD, but USB-stick.

I cannot roll back to version 1709 and have no restore points.

Issues occured after the inital v1803 upgrade when the update(s) on v.1803 version were offered by Windows update.

Thanks for your help and support.

    Please note Known Issues here:
    Cumulative Update KB4100403 Windows 10 v1803 Build 17134.81 - May 23 - Windows 10 Forums
    - does that apply to your hardware?

    Also note similar:
May 23, 2018 has failed on - Microsoft Community

I updated to win 10 kb4100403 (following the april update and 1 cumulative update, I was left with a black screen and circling white dots. I tried a recovery cd and various advanced options (including restore points) nothing worked!. Out of despiration I pressed F8 (didn’t think that worked anymore) and I got the option to go to safe mode then the update told me ‘unable to install reverting to previous setting!.
    - i.e. seems he managed to get to a working state again.

    Generally:

If you upgraded to 1803 less than 10 days ago, you could roll back by booting from a Win10 boot disk, via Repair your computer. However I'm guessing that it's more than 10 days.

Further, I'm guessing you haven't yet started to use disk imaging as we recommend (e.g. Macrium Reflect (free), so don't have a disk image or system image you can restore.

You say you have no restore points, so you can't use System Restore by booting from a Win10 boot disk, via Repair your computer, and navigating to System Restore.

So unless someone has posted a solution for this on 1803, you may have a real problem, and need to consider whether you have proper backups, and be prepared to do a clean install.

It seems 1803 may be sensitive to security solutions being installed, however this normally applies to the upgrade, rather than an update.

Acronis 2014 and Active@ were installed.
The were removed from the PC after the v.1803 upgrade and prior to v.1803 update(s) of last week.

    May be MBR problems ?

There seem to be other reports of your symptom after that update- see revised top of my last post. You can research that further e.g.
    kb4100403 black screen

Feel free to check your disk- you can boot your PC using e.g. Kyh's boot disk from the top of the Sotfware and Apps section here- lots of utilities- see HD Tune.
