Updating to 10 Pro from 7 Ultimate 64x > 0x80070011 - 0x2000D

Hello,

Finally I decided to try and move from my current Windows 7 ultimate up to a Windows 10 Pro, for that purpose I have downloaded the 'MediaCreationTool1803' tool from the Microsoft website. The next step was to simply execute it and start with the update but unfortunately I have faced this ugly error (attached screenshot) '0x80070011 - 0x2000D ' / The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation . That was while I tried the normal update, then I tried by mounting an ISO but unfortunately I encountered the same exact issue. Unfortunately browsing the internet about the issue in question wasn't successful, so I was wondering if I get some assistance here.

The explanation of the error code is as follows:

0x80070011 indicates that the system was trying to move data to another disk drive

0x2000D indicates that there was a problem during the data migration.

It would seem that you have data on another disk drive that the system is trying to migrate and it fails. With your current Win 7 have you moved data about and changed the location of system folders such as programs, users, etc. If so, you should try and get everything back to default locations and try the upgrade again.

I haven't moved nothing, everything is installed on the SSD C:/ and it's located inside. Have 315 GB free space out of 465 GB (150 GB currently occupato) . Any clue how I can see what exactly the system has tried to move and from where (place X) to where (place Y) ?

Do you have another disk drive installed as well as your SSD? If so you could try removing it before you do the upgrade.

Does the computer have a Windows 7 COA sticker? If so, record the product key from the sticker. If not, get the product key using showkey plus:

Then, I would either use a second HDD or SSD, or create an additional partition on your existing SSD (50 GB would be sufficient). Do a clean install of Windows 10 Pro to the second HDD/SSD or to the newly created partition. It should set up dual booting with Windows 7 automatically. Then try to activate the Windows 10 Pro with the Windows 7 Ultimate product key.

At least that way you will have get a digital license for Windows 10, if it activates. You can also move stuff over from Windows 7 to Windows 10 at your leisure and re-install your programs. When you get everything moved over, you can delete the Windows 7 partition and expand the Windows 10 partition to fill the space.

I will try this suggestion, since I do have a second SSD but it has like 30 GB free space on it, don't know how it's related.

@NavyLCDR No sticker on the current windows 7 or windows 10 that I wish to install, have purchased the Windows 10 OEM from a reseller, so there isn't an issue activating it a couple of time the installation required me to type in the key and it says that the key was okay. The issue unfortunately is upgrading the current setup without reinstalling, since I really wish to save majority of the things that I have installed.
@Superfly I am afraid that I did not understand your question regarding if the Windows is logical or not., but the link to which you have referred is encountering a different issue from what I can see. I could try and remove all other attached hardware except mouse, monitors and keyboard (also display drivers are updated to the latest version).

In the meanwhile if you have any other suggestions I will be more than glad to hear them out.

I have removed the other SSD Disk, then tried to upgrade but unfortunately the same issue happened again. Everything was fine until it reached 27% on the Windows 10 installing and updates (light blue screen not the purple) and lead to the same error. Any other toughs on what I can do except a clean install?
