Install attempt Failed with April 1803 update - 0x800704c7

    Hi,

    Any help would be appreciated.

Installation fails at 86%, then 'restores to previous version'. On my 17th attempt trying everything under the sun to update.

Also have had error code 0xc1900101 as well, which i understand is device driver related.

Tried with minimal applications/programs installed, and devices/SSDs etc... but no change.

I had a similar problem with that same code, there was another code that followed it that I can't remember. The 0xc1900101 is a generic (something happened) rollback error code. I found a site with a huge amount of information about upgrade error codes, out of all that, performing a clean boot resolved my issue. Like you I believed it was a driver issue even though they were all up to date as far as I could tell. Link for that site is below:

Resolve Windows 10 upgrade errors: Technical information for IT Pros s IT Blog

The link for performing a clean boot from that site is below, it's a Microsoft page. Scroll down to How to Perform a Clean Boot, select W10 and follow the directions exactly, that could be a simple way to complete the upgrade. Mine was stopping at 86%, after the clean boot it continued through the upgrade

    Good luck

Tried, and still it wont update.

Thinking of speaking to MS direct through customer services.

I know you've had this topic up for a week and only one reply, our posting to the topic will bump it, not the best way to get attention, but one of the tenforums resident experts might see it and offer some help.

Have you checked ASUS to see if you might need an updated driver(s)? It's something to check, you didn't mention anything about updating driver(s) sorry if you've already done that. Used your specs (MB) and google to get the link below.

There's always doing a "clean install" see link below, the downside of doing that is you have to go through reinstalling programs, and other personalized settings that will be lost. Write down any paid for programs license keys if choose to try a clean install.

    Hi, see
Upgrade to Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials
    - Resolve Windows 10 upgrade errors
(click on link and read section following, including info on logs).

Please post a screenshot of your partitions using Minitool Partition Wizard (not Disk Management).
Uninstall any security program before attempting upgrade again.

Error code 0x800704c7 usually occurs when your computer is unstable and critical system files fails to respond or missed, or the anti-virus program is prevent Windows from installing the updates.
    Basics:
    1. First check your disk:
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and make sure all disks are reported as good.
If not, do not continue, and post a screenshot of its GUI.

    2. Now check your file system:

From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:

    or
How to read Event Viewer log for Chkdsk in Windows 10 [Tip] | dotTech
    or

Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

From an admin command prompt, run SFC /SCANNOW and post the result.

Well, you can read thru logs like setuperr.log and see if they suggest anything. Unfortunately it's not easy.

How To Fix 0xc1900101 Installation errors in Windows 10
    - suggests what I said about uninstalling security solutions. One person mentions some Intel utility.

Windows 10 1803 update fails with message 0xc1900101. - Microsoft Community
Mostly ends up saying hide the upgrade and hope for success some time later. Unfortunately the first stage will still be to upgrade to 1803, so that means hoping MS changes the base build in some way. The typical pattern is for MS to produce a base build, then an update almost as big a couple of months later.
