I mostly deal with older machines, last is a nice HP G72 17" Notebook that came with Win7 and was Upgraded to Win10. I used GPARTED to wipe a 500GB drive completely then installed Win10 fresh using a DVD, let the install choose what it saw in the BIOS. It went from 5 partitions on the original 320GB to only 2 partitions, seems to be working just fine.
Ya it`s strange it won`t update, it`s clearly a MBR install.
If it`s not too much trouble, I would unplug the power cords from all those other drives and try to install the update again.
I would put the 1803 Iso on a usb stick with Rufus, and try the install from within Windows, do not boot from the stick. And when windows reboots the 1st time, pull the stick out or it will just start all over again.
You can also do the same thing by mounting the Iso in Explorer, if you have the Iso, and just click setup.exe
All I ever use is MBR for my OS drives, and I did not have 1 issue updating using the usb stick method.
Use the 1 time boot menu ( usually F8 ) to bring up the boot options, and choose the usb stick, you will see 2 usb stick options, a UEFI usb stick, and a non UEFI stick, choose the non UEFI usb stick.

Sounds typical of the upgrade can't make another 450mb recovery partition on the mbr disk because it already has 4 on it from prior upgrade builds.

Of course you put 1803 on the stick, how else would it get there ? Rufus does it, not you.
'well, jeez, I'm sorry I'm not a guru like you. Never used Rufus before.
1) Download Rufus
2) Insert at least a 8GB usb stick.
3) Open Rufus
4) Browse to the 1803 Iso by clicking on the small dvd player type icon in Rufus, I have the bottom arrow near it.
5) When you have all that done click start in Rufus
This picture will show you everything. But if you have the 1803 Iso file saved on your PC, you don`t even have to do any of this, you can simply right click on the Iso file and choose to open with Windows Explorer and then click on setup.exe and the update will start.

If you don`t have the 1803 Iso file yet, download it from here, click on the Download Tool. This will download the Media Creation Tool which should go to your downloads folder.
Download Windows 10
Open your downloads folder and click on the Media Creation Tool.
It will ask you some questions, and then when you get to this page simply choose to save the Iso file.
You can create a usb installer at this point if you want to, but I always download the Iso file and create an installer later, whether it`s a usb stick with Rufus or a DVD, but it`s senseless to use a DVD.
Post back once you have downloaded the 1803 Iso file.
