Thanks for the follow-up @tfwul. Indeed the "big clean" doesn't always work, but is worth a try. You should now be thinking about backing up your system, and then performing a clean install/rebuild thereafter (I add the "rebuild" word because there's a LOT of work involved in reinstalling and restoring your applications and such).

I've just made a fresh copy of Windows 10 Installation Media. I am trying to five that a go keeping apps and settings.
You have Pro, I wouldn`t worry about updating for a awhile, it`s most likely a piece of your hardware conflicting with the new update.
But google what you came up with, see if you can find anything.
I just received KB4103714 Cumulative Update, and it installed fine.
I restarted and received a Windows Defender update, but no 1803. 1803 doesn't come up anymore in Windows Updates.2018-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4103714)
