Upgrade to 1803 version fails with 0xc1900101-0x30017 error

    Hello,

I’ve made 5 unsuccessful attempts at upgrading to the latest 1803 version. Each time it fails at the first reboot with an error 0xc1900101-0x30017. Had the exact same issue with the 1709 version too and had to do a clean install then. I’ve tried all the regular workaround drill (as below) without luck.

    • Tried installing with all USB devices disconnected.

    • Tried a clean-boot install
    • Disabled/Uninstalled security software
    • Even tried disabling (rename) the usb driver USBHUB.sys ( which I suspect to be the problem driver)

It’s baffling how they release updates with repetitive bugs every time. Each upgrade brings with it some issue or the other. Minor bugs which can be easily traced and fixed are tolerable. But these driver related ones are not acceptable anymore (they’ve been in the business long enough to (know) weed out these fundamental issues before release) especially when it’s hard for the average user to track down with little to no meaningful support on their forums.

A clean install is something that should be a last resort considering it takes me a week to setup everything (the million settings) the way I want to. Moreover, one shouldn’t have to either. Having to do so every time there’s an issue smacks of incompetence on their part leaving us users to do the “cleaning up after someone else” — which we all do at our jobs and get paid for. It’s no different from hardware manufactures wanting you to do a hardware replacement (read Motherboard) even for minor (fixable) issues or how you have to replace the whole part at your local sanitary hardware store when all that’s wrong is a silly O-ring or a gasket.

I’m leaving a link here of the setup logs for someone to take a look. I couldn’t make sense of all the garbage.

    Thank you

It may help if you describe the procedure you are taking to perform the OS feature Update step by step.

    Nothing out of the ordinary.

First attempt was via Windows update where it notifies you with a 'Restart' prompt when the download and initial installation phase is complete, which I did only for it to crash after a restart (second one) where it shows configuring updates (roughly about 30% of the way). It then goes on to make two recovery attempts, fails and ends up doing a restore.

Second try was with an ISO made via UUPtoISO tool. The result being exactly the same , I get the BSOD again as described above. No changes.

Thereafter it was all about trialing different workarounds as mentioned above in the opening post with no change in the end result. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I'm merely following prompts.

    Thanks

You could try to disable all non MS Services with MSconfig and try again, making sure you also uninstall cleanly Bitdefender and disable Bitlocker.

The link was not able to be download:
Please use one drive or drop box.

See if you can find any of these Panther logs > zip > post share links.

    C:\Windows\Panthersetuperr.logsetupact.logSetupmem.dmpsetupapi.dev.logBlueBox.logEvent logs (*.evtx)C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback$Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupmem.dmp$Windows.~bt\Sourc es\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log$Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback*.evtx$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther \UnattendGCmiglog.xmlWindows\Logs\MosetupSetupapi.offline.log

The easiest method to find the logs is to use Everything:
    voidtools

Run the BETA log collector and post a zip into this thread:
    https://www.tenforums.com/attachment...-v2-beta10.zip
    (extract > open)
Use the text and images in this thread in case there are any problems running the beta log collector: (post #5)

I've already done that three times now and yes Bitdefender was uninstalled through their uninstall tool. The funny thing is a manual restore pointed I created prior to uninstalling ended up being nuked by the Windows installation somewhere along the way... I'm on Windows Home edition, so no Bitlocker at work.

I don't use either but will try again or a different file sharing site if it fails again. Usually works without a hitch.

I've zipped up both the folders Panther and Rollback in case you needed any other logs not asked above. But I can confirm Setupmem.dmpsetupapi.dev.logBlueBox.logEvent logs --\UnattendGCmiglog.xmlWindows\Logs\MosetupSetupapi.offline.log (*.evtx) are not available within the Panther folder and
Rollback*.evtx in the Rollback folder. Instead I've atached the Administrative Events logs from the event viewer.

Hi, I'm having the same issue and error message. Thanks much for the prior troubleshooting steps. At least I know what not to waste my time on .

I've also had other update issues in the past, and my experience has been only a reinstall of the OS fixes. I am half tempted to just not update anymore. As mentioned, MS breaks more things than fixing. It's no wonder that most businesses have been reluctant to upgrade to Windows 10 in a corporate environment.

In any case, I will follow this thread in hopes of something helpful. Thanks in advance for prior suggestions.

The beta collector zip was not able to be opened and displayed that it may be dangerous.
Sendspace is requiring an email address to view files.
It displayed Sorry, you can't watch this content as a guest. Please continue to create free account.

These are the Panther logs, that if found, may be useful in the troubleshooting:
    C:\Windows\Panther
    setuperr.log
    setupact.log
    Setupmem.dmp
    setupapi.dev.log
    BlueBox.log
    Event logs (*.evtx)

That's strange. The support folks at Bitdefender recommended Sendspace to me which has been working without issues so far...Looks like I have to create an account (exactly what I was trying to avoid, like everyone else ) with Dropbox. It will probably take me until past midnight tomorrow to upload the logs again because of a bandwidth issue.

Thanks again for your patience until then.

I’ve finally managed to upload the logs onto Dropbox. I’ve uploaded the ‘BETA log collector’ and the rest of the logs in separate links. Can’t seem to find the setupmem.dmp and Event logs (*.evtx) anywhere within the two folders. Instead, I’ve attached the Administrative Events logs from the event viewer in case you find it useful.

You will find three folders $WINDOWS.~BT, Windows & Mosetup along with Admin Events.evtx within the panther log (W10Forums Logs) zip.

Hope it helps you to help me.
