Upgrading from 1709 to 1803 via USB

Then don`t boot from the usb stick, just right click on the Iso file ( if you saved it ) and choose to open with windows explorer and do the update, just click on setup.

If you didn`t save the Iso, you`ll have to download it. Use the download tool again and this time save the Iso file instead of creating a usb stick.

No need to boot from the stick. Are you certain you want to install 1803 already ? Much too soon in my opinion.

You CAN boot from the usb stick, but DO NOT choose custom install, choose to keep all your programs and files. But that way is risky too. Opening the Iso file from within windows 1709 is safer and quicker.

Remember, ALWAYS back up your data :) If possible, you should create an image of 1709 with Macrium Reflect before you do anything.

And I suppose you could just use the USB stick and open it in explorer to do the same thing.

Proceed with caution.

Maybe the download was bad, worked fine for me when I tested it.

Thanks for the reply. Yup, I've already tried mounting the ISO and running the setup.exe directly. Always gives an error halfway through. Also already have a macrium backup :)

Did you disable any 3rd party AVs? I always do that for major updates.
