    flashdrive ISO

I get the message that the media creation tool cannot instal Win 10 April.
At a help site I saw where someone had the same issue then it worked after 2 tries. I have tied twice.
Any ideas. I have had trouble since the April installation as though my firewall is blocking apps etc.

An .iso file is used to create/burn a DVD that is an exact copy of the original. Having such a file on a thumb drive may work if in File Explorer one right-clicks the file and choose Mount then run the Setup.exe by double-clicking it. When done the drive can be Ejected. I use the MCT/Media Creation Tool process to create the bootable USB drive or a different choice of downloading the .iso file for creating the bootable DVD later. If Upgrading to a newer version with Windows running you can double-click the Setup.exe file on the thumb drive to start the process. Being able to boot from either type drive is important if there is no OS on the hard drive or wanting to a full clean install.

I am not as techy as I would like to be. Are you saying to download the ISO file and later burn it to flash drive, or, burn it to disc and again, burn that ISO to dsc. It appears I should not choose the flash drive.
If I use the flash drive, I mount it to run setup and with the disc just run set up.
Please correct me in as simple terms as possible.
Sorry about the work but I would like to do a clean install later and will need the media to do it.

    1) You use the MCT to burn the Iso file to a usb stick, just follow the instructions.

It will clearly ask if you want to put it on a usb stick.

What exactly are you trying to do ?

This is just my opinion, but it is way too soon to install 1803 on a PC.

    Download Windows 10

The Media Creation Tool has an option to 'make media for another PC'. That option by default makes media that is the correct bits (32 or 64) and language as your PC. It will offer to make the media as either an ISO file or as a bootable USB - either will do.

The ISO file is the easiest to use to upgrade your PC to 1803. If you download the ISO to your PC then double-click on the file in File Explorer it will mount it as a virtual DVD drive - there's no need to burn it to a disk first. Find Setup.exe on that virtual DVD drive and run it to start upgrading to 1803.

    Exactly.

The only reason to put 1803 on a usb stick or dvd is if you are installing it on another computer.

This is just my opinion, but it is much too soon to install 1803 on a PC.
    >>I already have it installed as it was in progress when I awoke my pc.
I was just trying to make a flash drive so I could install 1803 much later to do a clean install.
You are right about a premature installation b.c although all seems to work I am getting problems with, I think, my firewall as sometimes things cannot install.

So then wait to download the Iso file, it will have more updates in it etc.

Everyone and their brother is either trying to download the Iso or upgrade their PC right now. (Rush hour on the freeway, with an accident in the left hand lane)

Because most seems to be ok, I would hope any issues will be ironed out with updates.
I will take up the ISO at a much later date.

You may not have much choice, the automatic rollout through Windows Update starts on 8th May. Windows update will most likely find and install the 'Features Update to Windows 10, version 1803' shortly after that.

In fact, if you manually check for updates in Settings > Update & Security then windows update will see and install it before the automatic rollout begins.
