    I think I just figured out what dmholt57 was referring too. If you only paid for one upgrade to Pro Workstation (one license) then no, legally you can't use that MAK key on another PC.
    When I originally read the first post I thought you bought a 10 Workstation key and had a separate MAK key. But what you actually have is just the MAK key that you got from Microsoft when you did the upgrade to workstation. Correct?

    In a corporate setup you have to have purchased a license for every PC you activate with VL or MAK key. They are multiple activation, but you basically pay per device activated with those keys. I lose site of that with my MAK keys as they are for testing and I don't pay any licensing. I can keep using them until I hit my limit on activations and they stop working. Sorry if I confused things.

    Apologies for taking so long to figure it out. Somebody in another thread posted that they got a MAK key when buying the Pro Workstation upgrade, then it clicked. I had misread the first post.

    Thanks for great explanation and it is werry nice that you specifie the difference,
    then i can build a new deskop pc and install it with my MAK key windows 10 pro Workstation :)
    Hi there
    Windows 7 legit keys (PRO, and Ultimate -- not Enterprise) still work.
    Your Windows 10 will be the same or equivalent -- e.g X86 to X86, Win 10 PRO from W7 PRO or ULTIMATE, W10 Home from W7 Home.

    Old TechNet keys still work (these usually had many activations -- not sure of the limit but quite a lot --I'm still using mine). I'd imagine other legit W7 sources would work too such as MSDN versions.

    The safest way to ensure this works is to do a quick install of W7 first -- just the base install - don't bother with any extra apps but do ensure updated to latest version. Now update to W10.

    Then you can do a clean install if you wish.

    It's possible just entering a W7 key at W10 install time on a brand new clean install might work without having to install W7 first -- haven't tried that yet but my method was working last week. Get the iso via Ms MCT.

    Non of those keys will give you Pro Workstation though. Not as far as I know anyway. Which is what the OP is asking about. Still, a legally activated Pro for zero dollars isn't all that bad.

    Hi there
    @alphanumeric

    even if one wants Workstation there might be a cheaper upgrade from PRO than buying retail from scratch..
    Not sure what Workstation buys you over PRO - haven't seen too much documentation on it yet. AFAIK large organisations on W10 are all using ENTERPRISE,

    I looked at the differences once a while back, can't tell you what they are off the top of my head though. I think there is a sticky or tutorial around someplace. I ran it for a while but didn't use anything that wasn't already in Pro. I have very simple needs. Having an MSDN subscription means I can have a free test run so I did. I'm currently running Enterprise, but that's only because I'm testing different editions. I could get by with Pro no problem.
