    Need help with Upgrade installation

    Hi

About a week ago whilst trying to fix my corrupted Steam installation,i was advised to restart in Safe mode and networking.Bad luck for me is that I did this from MSconfig(Safe boot and network),and not using the boot manager and choosing Safe mode and networking from the Startup choices.

Now my PC won't boot up at all.Have tried all the different options tried all the Advanced options to fix things but nothing.

I used my recovery DVD to do an upgrade installation, but it says Windows has to start normally to do this.

Is there any way I can make a bootable USB stick to get me to Windows, and do an upgrade installation?.I would like to do this as opposed to 1.5 Tb of games & DLC.

My apologies if I can't see the bootable USB stick to get me to Windows in the sticky posts.I have looked through plenty this past week trying to sort out my problem and my head is spinning!!.

    Thanks in advance

    Colin

Depending on what you have done to your PC, you have an outside chance of getting it to boot again by restoring the backup copy of your registry.

Before considering that, have you tried System Restore from the Advanced Startup options?

You may still be able to access system restore (depending on the state of your disk) by booting your PC from a Win 10 installation medium, clicking 'Repair your computer' and navigating through the menus until you see System Restore.

That only applies if you ever enabled system restore and haven't already tried it.

Turning to restoring the backup copy of your registry:
The easiest way would be to use Kyhi's boot disk from the top of the Software and Apps section here so you can use file explorer.

The following instructions (attached) relate to using a command prompt:

Note: had you been in the habit of routinely using disk imaging as we constantly recommend, you would have saved yourself a great deal of time, and been able to restore your PC to a previous working state quite quickly. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + external storage for disk image sets.
