    0xC1900101 - 0x30018 Error Upgrading to Windows 10

I posted a thread about whether or not I should purchase windows 10. after much debate, I took everyone's advice and purchased it. I was beginning to upgrade when it crashed about halfway through. I kept trying but I kept getting this error after it reverts back to windows 7

"The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation"

I googled and it has something to do with drivers but I'm going to have to basically uninstall ALL my drivers if I'm to find the right one cause of how many I have for different devices. Should I just do a clean install and just copy-paste my user folder from windows.old?

Are there any other fixes? Thanks in advance!

Save the windows.old folder, all of it, to a separate external drive. It will be erased on a clean install. It will be gone.

Follow the instructions for a clean install here:

Clean Install Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials

Then you can copy the contents of your user folder from windows.old.

If it reverted back to Win 7, you could just backup/save the user folder in Win 7 to external, and copy it back from that.

Either way, save your user data, clean install, and copy the user data back.

Some suggestions from Microsoft for 0x30018....

    Microsoft said:
...0xC1900101 is a generic rollback code, and usually indicates that an incompatible driver is present. The incompatible driver can cause blue screens, system hangs, and unexpected reboots. Analysis of supplemental log files is often helpful, such as:

    • The minidump file: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupmem.dmp,
    • Event logs: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback*.evtx
    • The device install log: $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log

The device install log is particularly helpful if rollback occurs during the sysprep operation (extend code 0x30018). To resolve a rollback due to driver conflicts, try running setup using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs by performing a clean boot before initiating the upgrade process.

    Mitigation
Disconnect all peripheral devices that are connected to the system, except for the mouse, keyboard and display.
Contact your hardware vendor to obtain updated device drivers.
Ensure that "Download and install updates (recommended)" is accepted at the start of the upgrade process.
