At the time I loved 7 but I agree with the above, 10 performs better and is overall easier to use.

In terms of "spying" I believe they only track things like how you used your computer, what apps you used and for how long and may be your IP but no personal information. If you're worried there are software to counter that such as Shutup10 but I don't personally use that. As long as your not breaking the law, you don't need to worry.

I run both Win 7 and Win 10. I have configured Win 10 to work much like I did on Win 7. Classic Shell (no longer under development), Rocket Dock, QTTabBar and Free Launch Bar. W10 is faster but that is undoubtedly the hardware. As mentioned earlier you can tie down the privacy a lot in the later builds. I would go with Win 10 because it is more secure and still being developed.

    Hi,
10 Home is not worth beans
10 Pro is a little better in that one can limit things a little more than Home version.

Is 10 better than 7 well if 7 is not broken by MS updates yet no probably not :)
I love the way people say 7 is long in the tooth and going nowhere or dated lol
If it's not broken don't fix it

Either way 10 pro is the only version worth looking at and see for yourself 1709 is no better and might be a little worse than creator updates most or at least I long for the creators update lol

    Absolutely agreed, Swarfega.

And yeah, I'm aware that Microsoft tracks certain things in Windows 10, but I consider it a helping hand, rather than a lack of privacy.

Indeed I'm more than happy helping Microsoft make the product I use for work and play better.

I believe privacy is really underrated lately, and two words came to my mind reading this thread: Stockholm syndrome. I'm not referring to any particular post, it simply happened.

    regards.

Actually, I have a test machine (system two in my specs) that has system images I can restore to run any version of 10 and its original Windows 7. It's the same installed software on each system and (obviously) the same hardware.

My experience is that apps like Office open much faster in 10 than they do in 7.

That's fair enough. In my case I went from a spinner to an SSD and from an i3 to an i7 so any effect of the OS was lost.

I have windows 10 Home running on an old HP DC7800 SFF desktop, with a little tweaking and some hardware upgrades it runs surprisingly fast! (See my system 2 specs for details.)

    1) Ads can all be turned off.

    2) Windows 10 seems faster than Windows 7, in my opinion.

    3) Privacy for the most part can be set by the user. There is really no such thing as complete privacy though because your ISP, apps, etc. can all compromise your privacy.

If your computer meets the requirements Windows 10 is the way to go.

It's hard to address your concerns about "privacy" because this is largely subjective terms that means different things to different folks.

To me, "privacy" means protecting my personal information -- with nobody, and nothing, recording keystrokes, audio or video -- without my express permission for each and every single instance.

To me, if that stuff is being recorded, then I am being "spied upon" -- and hiding behind tems like "telemetry" does not change that.

So, if you want "privacy", you can disabled any microphones, put tape over any cameras, and use utilities to disable as much "telemetry" as possible. And remember, if Cortana is running, then (by definition), Cortana is also LISTENING.

Some folks would say -- then don't use Win10 -- but that would also mean don't use a smartphone (as its location is being tracked 24/7), don't stream media over any Internet based service, don't drive any car with an Infotainment system, don't text folks, don't use Social Media, ... etc.

Unless you are completely "off the grid", you really have no guarantee of absolute "privacy" -- so the choice, and trade-offs, are up to you.
