It failed
It failed
Sorry, what failed exactly? Ignore the in-place upgrade install repair- that needs further instructions.
Do you mean attempting to upgrade failed?
If so, in what way? Was there an error message?
Please say step by step what you did and what happened.
Assuming you did what Caledon Ken suggested (the shortcut) you have much fuller instructions in my earlier post.
Or we can try the build 1607 in-place upgrade repair install, for which you need a 1607 iso if you don't already have one. I can tell you how.
Or you can clean install...
Open Services
Stop Windows Update service
Delete everything under c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
Start Service
Run setup.exe in ISO
After the installation, I get 'Windows 10 installation has failed'
Maybe I'm using the wrong ISO?
Thanks. If you want to check what your iso is, please see

Previously I posted this- please try working through that- a lot more than you've done.
b. Error 0x8007007e
There's a useful set of ideas here:
How to Fix Windows Update Error 0x8007007e?
Also please note there are risks- in taking invasive action there is always a risk of ending up with an unbootable PC.
We continually advise people to protect against this and more by routinely using disk imaging (e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + external storage for image sets).
Will try, also forgot to mention - I disabled Avast and the firewall while the update ran. I've already created a MR backup
It seems you're having problems downloading updates.. how reliable is your internet?
Disconnect any unnecessary peripherals, and try an in-place upgrade repair install of 1607 which keeps all programs and data.
Download an iso for 1607 here, if you don't already have one.
Microsoft Windows 10 Anniversary Update 1607 Download (Build 14393.0)
Then log in as usual, rt click and Mount the iso, then open the new disk letter with file explorer and run setup.exe
If that works, you may be able to upgrade to 1709 successfully.
Hi, you haven't said what you did that produced that. I'll ask specific questions to check. Please answer each.
a. Did you download the 1607 iso as per my post #17?
b. Did you rt click it and mount it?
c. Did you then browse to the new disk letter?
d. Did you see Setup.exe and double click it?
To confirm your build number, please do
Windows key + R, winver.
Thanks.
Yes, I did all of that.
Version 1607.
