    Yes, the disk is exactly what you'd see if you mounted an ISO of the same disk. Make sure you include the boot files/folders.

    Is it a disk with SP1, though? If not, making a new drive from an SP1 ISO will save a bunch of updates from having to be installed.

    If it isn't an SP1 disk, there are two updates to install before checking for updates. SP1 (obviously) and then the 'Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1'. This one isn't delivered through Windows Update, you can only get it from the Microsoft Update Catalog. In fact, the 'convenience rollup' is effectively the 'SP2' Win7 deserved but never got.     I recently had to do that for a laptop I took back to its 'factory reset' image - only to discover its reset image predated SP1 :)

    Thanks, mine was the pre-service pack 1 disk so I downloaded and installed per the info above. Thanks, saved me a lot of time.
