I did not run the "chkdsk /x /f /r" command for the SSD system drive. On the other hand, checked the status of the drive via the Samsung Magician:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-ssd-status.jpg

While the Samsung Magician performance test is misleading, here's the result:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-performance.jpg

The AS SSD benchmark just as misleading as the above:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-ssd-pro.jpg

The raw performance of the Samsung 840 PRO is probably similar to the other SSD in the system, Samsung 850 EVO:

The MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition image capture:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-minitool.jpg

Uninstalled the software; every time the program starts, it pops up an ad...

The result of the "dxdiag", after the video driver had been updated to the WHQL version:

    Looks like USB driver problem.

Unplug all USB things (disks, keyboards whatever), then to be on the safe side uninstall your display driver through device manager so you only have MS basic, reboot and try again.

If that doesn't work backup and try this before EOY to register your free upgrade (apparently it may stop then but it may have stopped in August 2016 so who knows).

    Hi Cr00zng,

According to 2 seperate reports in the logs you supplied, systeminfo & hotfix
NO updates are installed, very strange, to upgrade to W10 a pre-requisite is that a system is upto date.

The troubleshooter screenshot, post #9, is also pointing to an update problem.
    please run KB947821, (SURT)
    REBOOT
Then post the CBS and Checksur logs
would also like to see the results of this tool, no private data in it

Windows 7 has no issues with any of the USB devices. Most of the USB drivers are from Microsoft, except the USB 3.0, that is Intel from 2016. That's not to say that the issue is not with the USB driver; I just don't see USB issues in Windows 7.

Both the keyboard and mouse are connected to USB 2.0 ports, there's no PS2 input device available. The video driver is WQHL certified, updated just today; the driver for W7 and W10 is exactly same, based on the driver version.

The USB devices are unplugged otherwise, if and when online update started.

The only USB device that Windows 10 may have issue with is the monitor's USB 3.0 hub, connected to one of the PC's USB 3.0 ports. I'll unplug this USB hub, prior to the next attempt for Windows 10 upgrade.

I did run the program and saved the "GenuineTicket.xml" file on the Windows 10 installation USB stick...

The system also have TrueCrypt installed for USB backup of company files, that may or may not interfere with Windows 10 installation. Yet another program that need to be disabled prior to Windows 10 update...

Please note your system is also experiencing problems caused by COMODO

    Thanks hawkman....

It is strange that no updates are showing, this month' security updates were installed about 2-3 weeks ego on this system. Maybe the disk clean utility that I've ran after the failed Windows 10 install wiped out the list?

I'll run both the "KB947821" and the MGADiag.exe" later today, or tomorrow morning; the system is being used during the day. Time permitting, I'll run the Windows 10 update, if these programs fix the issues.

The Comodo install manager is disabled, but will be removed prior to any Windows 10 update started. It is not compatible with Windows 10 anyway.

I've just took a quick look for Windows 7 updates and yes, updates do show up via the "Add/Remove Program" in the control panel:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-updates.jpg

Question in regards of running both Windows 7 and 10 on the same system, if the update won't work...

The Windows 10 installation media on a USB flash drive does have the "GenuineTicket.xml" file. My desk has a blank Samsung SSD that can be added to the Windows 7 system and Windows 10 could be installed to this blank SSD. Would Windows 10 be activated by the XML file on the USB drive?

More importantly, would it be compliant to the licensing requirement to run (dual-boot) both Windows 7 and 10?

The BIOS/EUFI "F12" can be used for selecting the drive to boot, effectively booting different systems. I've been doing that on my own system with Windows 7, 8.1, 10 and Linux at times. Yes, my system has five physical drives...

These were some of the problems identified so far in the logs:

Bugcheck 9F Driver power state failure

    Multiple unexpected shutdown/crashes on 12/25, 12/24, 12/22, 12/21 etc. without BSOD.

For the troubleshooting of the upgrades uninstall as many software/drivers as possible that did not load or failed in the Panther logs.
These applications/drivers could be reinstalled after a successful upgrade:

    1) Uninstall Emsisoft (evdd.sys and epp.sys)
How can I completely uninstall an Emsisoft Product? - Powered by Kayako Help Desk Software
    2) Turn on Windows defender
    2) Update: Truecrypt.sys (consider migration to bitlocker)
    3) Uninstall: ALSysIO64.sys (core temp)
    4) Uninstall: dbx.sys (dropbox)
    5) Uninstall: portmsys.sys (systernals)
    6) Uninstall: webexaminer64.sys (threat track)

    7) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste: chkdsk /f
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight.
    8) Find the chkdsk report in the event viewer with the information in this link and post into the thread:
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials

    9) Run HD Tune: http://www.hdtune.com/
    Full error scan
    Benchmark

    10) If Ccleaner is used > click windows tab > scroll down to system and advanced > post an image into the thread
    11) In the left lower corner search type: clean > open disk cleanup > scroll up and down > post images into the thread

    12) In the left lower corner search type: system or system control > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings
    > on the advanced tab under startup and recovery click settings > post an image of the startup and recovery into the thread.
    > on the advanced tab under performance > click on settings > click on advanced tab > under virtual memory click on change > post an image of the virtual memory tab into the thread

    13) In the left lower corner search type services > open windows error reporting service > scroll to the startup type column > right click > left click on properties > post an image into the thread

    14) Download and install Whocrashed > in the left upper corner above analyze click on tools > crash dump test > type: ACCEPT
    http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed
    15) Click analyze > look for dead or deaddead in the results > post the results into the thread

    16) Run the DM log collector after all of the above steps and post a zip into the thread:
BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums
BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums

    17) Make a brand new restore point

    18) Backup all files

    19) Update the backup image

Windows driver verifier is tool that will repetitively produce BSOD until misbehaving drivers are fixed or until the tool is turned off.
20)Read these links and wait for communication before starting the tool:

Driver Verifier-- tracking down a mis-behaving driver. - Microsoft Community
Enable and Disable Driver Verifier in Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials

    21) The dxdiag listing was incomplete.
In the left lower corner search type: dxdiag > open each tab > give several minutes for it to completely load > save to the desktop > post a share link into the thread.

These were some of the problems identified so far in the logs:

Bugcheck 9F Driver power state failure

    Multiple unexpected shutdown/crashes on 12/25, 12/24, 12/22, 12/21 etc. without BSOD.

The system is attached to an active UPS, yet, I did see this critical event a number of times:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

There was no reboot either, at the time the event viewer referenced. At the very least, some of the application data would have been lost, if the system just decided to reboot, not to mention that the apps would have been closed after login. I realize that this sounds strange, but can't say something else when it's not the case.

For the troubleshooting of the upgrades uninstall as many software/drivers as possible that did not load or failed in the Panther logs.
These applications/drivers could be reinstalled after a successful upgrade:

    1) Uninstall Emsisoft (evdd.sys and epp.sys)
How can I completely uninstall an Emsisoft Product? - Powered by Kayako Help Desk Software
    2) Turn on Windows defender
    2) Update: Truecrypt.sys (consider migration to bitlocker)
    3) Uninstall: ALSysIO64.sys (core temp)
    4) Uninstall: dbx.sys (dropbox)
    5) Uninstall: portmsys.sys (systernals)
    6) Uninstall: webexaminer64.sys (threat track)

None of these programs are installed, except the last one that is part of the Vipre AV. The other "sys" files will be removed, if I can find them in the "System32" directory.

    Benchmark
As stated earlier, the "chkdsk" will not be used on the SSD drive. Scanning SSD drives for errors are not useful and adds to wear level unnecessarily. Samsung status report and other performance test software designed for SSD output posted earlier. Neither of them reported any issues and the performance is on par with the type of SSD.

Other requests need to be looked in deeper and make the necessary adjustment as needed.

The time I, and you guys/gals, had spent on this update probably would have purchased a new system by now. Your help is much appreciated...
