Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...

I've tried a number of times to update Windows 7 to Windows 10, using Microsoft MCT. Each and every times the upgrade process seemingly finishes to 100%, but instead of rebooting the first time, it pops up this error message on the Windows 7 desktop:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-install-fail.jpg

    The system in question:

    Power supply Seasonic 650W
    Motherboard: Asus P8P67 LE
    BIOS date: 09/2013, latest available
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, retail purchase
    CPU: i5 2500K, Sandy Bridge
    Memory: 8 GBs
Page file: 16GBs, on "C" drive
Graphic card: Radeon HD 6870, one GBs memory
System drive: 250GBs Samsung 850 EVO, SATA
Data drive: 250GBs Samsung 850 EVO, SATA
Storage drive: One TB Seagate HDD
    CD/DVD drive: LG Re-writable DVD
    Network card: Realtek
    Audio: Realtek

Prior to starting the update, either from a USB stick, or doing online via MCT, the following services/application were disabled:

    • Vipre A/V
    • Malwarebytes 3.x
    • Microsoft EMET
    • Macrium Reflect service
    • Samsung Magician

This is a small business system and as such, all software is licensed, including QuickBooks 2012 and 2018.

I am not certain, if the video card, or the Realtek audio/network that bounce the update to Windows 10> Any suggestion is welcome.
    TIA...

    See if this step helps:

    replace: C:\Windows10Upgrade\wimgapi.dll
    with: C:\Windows\System32\wimgapi.dll

Open file explorer > this PC > C:
    Open system32 folder > Find wimgapi.dll > copy
    Close the folder.
    Find Windows10upgrade folder

    Double click on that folder.
Then right mouse click and select paste.
You'll then be asked if you wish to replace the wimgapi.dll file with the new one.
Select yes. . and it should replace the file for you.
Close the folders down, restart the upgrade assistant and all should now be working.

    Thanks z....

The file named "C:\Windows\System32\wimgapi.dll" does exists in Windows 7, with the date of 07.13.2009.

On the other hand, it does not exist in Windows 10 USB drive. These are the file names starting with "wim" that are in Windows 10, with file dates:

    H:\Resources\wimprovider.dll, 09.29.2017
    H:\resources\en-us\wimprovider.dll.mui, 09.29.2017
The "setuperr.log" starts with these errors:

    Error MOUPG CSystemHelper::CheckConnectedStandby(642): Result = 0x80070057
Error CONX Windows::Compat::Appraiser::AppraiserSettings::GetSettingsInternal (289): Failed to Query OneSettings [0x80070002].[gle=0x80070002]

The end of the same log file shows these errors, after 45 pages of other errors::

Searching for the "0x8007001F" error found a number of suggested remediation, such as disable A/V, run "sfc', clean up the drive, etc., that I've done already a number of times.

The same error at this forum for the anniversary update:

Frustrating and at this point a new system seems like less headache...

The system in question is not mine, and the initial posting included the system specs:

    Power supply Seasonic 650W
    Motherboard: Asus P8P67 LE
    BIOS date: 09/2013, latest available
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, retail purchase
    CPU: i5 2500K, Sandy Bridge
    Memory: 8 GBs
Page file: 16GBs, on "C" drive
Graphic card: Radeon HD 6870, one GBs memory
System drive: 250GBs Samsung 850 EVO, SATA
Data drive: 250GBs Samsung 850 EVO, SATA
Storage drive: One TB Seagate HDD
    CD/DVD drive: LG Re-writable DVD
    Network card: Realtek
    Audio: Realtek
Left out is wired printers, one color the other is monochrome, and the Antac P100 case.

The AV/firewall list was part of the first post as well:

    • Vipre A/V
    • Malwarebytes 3.x
    • Microsoft EMET
    • Macrium Reflect service
    • Samsung Magician
And yes, all of them had been disabled prior to starting the update.

The system and data drives are SSD drives and to my knowledge, running disk utilities for the SSD drive doesn't do any good. Windows 7 runs just fine, no issues with the SSD drive. Running "hdtune" later today will probably just confirm that. I did run the AS SSD and Samsung benchmarks and they showed no issues.

The "sfc /scannow" did run a number of times, after each failed update as well, and reported no system violation, or issue.

The system in question has the "System Restore" disabled, prefer image backup. Macrium Reflect runs a daily image backup for both the system and the data SSD drives to an external eSATA drive.

I don't use OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.; uploading the requested files is a no go. I can locate all of the files listed in your post manually.
I will run the fix update MS tool later today, although the update is working.

The video card drive is rather old, just downloaded the last one for the HD series that doubles as WHQL driver for Windows 10, will install it later today....

Can the person who owns the computer start a thread in our sister website Seven Forums and post the Panther logs?

Or can you perform some troubleshooting steps > perform an upgrade > and if it fails post Panther logs?

These files: msinfo32, dxdiag, mini dumps, memory dumps, drivers, hosts, install, uninstall, services, startup, event files, all of the Panther logs that can be found, etc.

Running this command may be easy to capture many of the on the desktop:

    md "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles"&wmic /output:"%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\hotfix.txt" qfe list full /format:table&copy %SystemRoot%\minidump\*.dmp "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles"&type %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts >> "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\hosts.txt"&systeminfo > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\systeminfo.tmp"&findstr /v "Owner." "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\systeminfo.tmp" > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\systeminfo.txt"&del "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\systeminfo.tmp"&driverquery /v > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\drivers.txt"&msinfo32 /nfo "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\msinfo32.nfo"&wevtutil qe System /f:text > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\eventlog.txt"&reg export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\uninstall.txt"&reg export "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components" "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\installed.txt"&net start > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\services.txt"&sc query type= driver state= all > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\driver_status.txt"&sc query type= service state= inactive > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\inactive_services_status.txt"&sc query type= service state= all > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\all_services_status.txt"&REM wmic service list full /format:htable >%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\service.html&REM wmic /output:%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles\nics.html nicconfig list /format:hform

Please run these commands to post test results into the thread:
    1) sfc /scannow
    2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    3) chkdsk /x /f /r
    4) Windows update troubleshooter

    Thanks for your help z...

Windows update troubleshooter did not fix all issues:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-update-error.jpg

The "sfc ..." command found no issues:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-sfc.jpg

    Disk manager:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-disk.jpg

The "dism /online...." exits with error 87:

Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10...-dism.jpg

I'll zip up and upload the output of the "md "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\CollectedFiles..." in the next post...

The "CollectedFiles" folder is too large to upload. Removed the "eventlog.txt" file and zipped up the folder content:

    Collected Files.zip

    The "eventlog.txt" file zipped:

    eventlog.zip

The attached "setuperr.log" is from the last time Windows 10 update failed:

    Attachment 169723

The attached "setupact.log" (zipped) is from the last time Windows 10 update failed:

    setupact.zip
