Got bored with all the faffing about, so refreshed Win 8.1 through the recovery options and then Windows 10 installed with no problem at all.

    Just reinstalling everything now...

We couldn't find any search results in the Windows Store for "WindowsUpdate_dt000 OR C1420121"

I may just have to try that if I can't get it any other way.

I got tired of messing with it and refreshed mine also. Windows 10 installed without a glitch.

I've been getting the same problem on my friends laptop, have tried 5 times in total. So I guess a refresh of 8.1 first and then an upgrade to 10 will work?

Silly me...I reset 8.1 with my 8.1 Pro DVD and not the standard 8.1 (that was already on the laptop) and obviously windows isn't activated. Now I have to restore a system image and then create a standard 8.1 DVD so that I can do a reset.

You guys were right, reseting 8.1 done the trick. Have upgrade to 10 now with no problems.
