    Media Creation Tool question

Hi, I have never had any problems using the Media Creation Tool to perform a Windows 10 clean installation until yesterday so I have a couple of questions.
    1. The tutorial here says after going to the Microsoft site and selecting the Download Tool (Media Creation Tool) option that the Media Creation Tool should be save to the PC and run from there.
On Microsoft site the instructions are to Download the Tool and select Run (no saving to the PC). Is there a reason for saving it to the PC first as suggested on Tenforums?

    2. Yesterday I used the Media Creation Tool to do a clean install. Everything went fine with the download. After the two hour download the Media Creation Tool automatically started to create the media. Everything working normally so far..then suddenly at 50% a screen popped up with an unexpected error message Error code beginning 0x80004005. That was it I had to stop there.
After searching the net it seems that other people have had the same issue after the Fall Creators Update...with the installation stopping at 50%. I have no idea how to sort this out. After contacting Microsoft Chat Support they didn't offer any suggestions that worked either.
    Can anyone advise please
    Many Thanks

Thanks Cerberus but Ive no problem downloading the Iso with the media creation tool. I don't think its the ISO that is the problem' I think the problem is when the Media Creation Tool is creating the bootable USB flash drive. So I think I can use the Media Creation Tool for that part...and as you say try something like Rufus to create the bootable USB flash drive

I still have this question though "The tutorial here says after going to the Microsoft site and selecting the Download Tool (Media Creation Tool) option that the Media Creation Tool should be save to the PC and run from there.

I was curious to see if others had encountered the issue I had with the Media Creation Tool. Ive never had a problem using it before

Just mount iso as a drive and run setup.exe - most reliable method.

I don't want to get too far out of my comfort zone mate. I know how to use the Media Creation Tool and I'm familiar with Rufus so Id rather stick with what I know

I recommend saving the .iso for two reasons. The first reason is you have the .iso to hand in case you need it later on. The second is Rufus does a better job of making a Bootable USB.

He's not asking about saving the ISO, he's asking about saving the Media Creation Tool. I don't see the point. It's small so if I need it again, just get it from the MS web site.

You can save the Media Creation Tool, but once it gets updated to newest released version (currently 1709), I find it hard to locate previous versions afterwards. I save them and append the version number to the label of the exe file so the next one coming in doesn't overwrite the previous version when downloading and saving them.

I have them all, back to the original 10240 (1507) release. 1507, 1511 and 1607 versions of the MCT still make the media for the release they were designed for. The 1703 one however is different - if you try running it now it says there's a newer version and do you want to download it? That's the only option it offers you, there's no way to use it to make 1703 media now.

I just tested and you are right, the 1703 version is being redirected to the newest version. 1709 isn't doing the same at the moment, but come March 2018, that could change.
