yours appears to be a different problem, we don't have a cursor
I'm starting to suspect it may be a video issue but that's just a late night guess. Will leave it on while I call it a day.

I had the same problem updating my 8.1 Pro X64 system, hung at black screen with mouse still working.
I had to hard reset 3-4 times then I started getting flashes of the Desktop and the hung screen.
A few more resets and ity stayed on the Desktop long enough for me to click on Settings, Power, Shift+Restart which took me to the recovery screen where I was able to chose Rollback. It started to rollback then hung. Another hard rest and the restore to 8.1 finally actually started and completed and I'm now back to 8.1.

What is strange is the Windows Update screen opened immediately and it said Downloading Windows 10, which I already had. I checked and it had wiped out the $Windows.~BT folder and was downloading it all over again. Currently at 61%.

No idea what is wrong but it seems to be video related. I have a ATI Radeon HD 3450.

I'm downloading the ISO via the new WIn 10 MediaCreationTool and will create a flash drive to try the upgrade from next time.

    Update 3...

Files have been copied and it restarted successfully. Now it's starting the "Installing features and drivers" where it got hung up last time after it completed this step. Lets see how this goes...

    Update 4..

It got to 91% on the step and 73% overall (exactly the same place where it stopped last time), and restarted. Dell screen loaded, HDD flickered, and I got really excited...

... Until it stayed on again. Now its back to the same black screen and HDD light as before. So no success on that attempt. :/

    Hey guys,

I was installing windows 10 (8.1 before) on my Dell inspiron 15 7000 series (7537), and it progressed to restarting after the installing drivers step, but after the restart and going through the dell startup screen, everything went black. The HDD light is stuck on and not flickering like it normally does. There is no cursor or anything on the screen, it's just black. I waited for an hour and nothing changed, so I thought maybe it was frozen, so I restarted the computer via hard reset, which took it to a "attempting to recover update" screen, but after a few seconds on that screen it went immediately back to the black screen.
Its been about 30 min since that hard restart and its still black, HDD light still on, and nothing seems to be happening. Does anyone have any solutions to this???
    Thanks!
    Hi

Think I have the same type of problem. Upgrading from Win 7 on an HP TM2 notebook ATI Radeon card, seemed to be going OK. After 4 hours with black screen, tried a reboot. Get past BIOS, Blue Windows logo and rotating circle, then a brief flashing cursor top left, then black screen. No mouse, but HD activity. Pulling power and rebooting get same thing.

CTR ALT DEL doesn't work, so in limbo.

Glad I did a full disc image backup in Win 7 now. If all else fails.

I have the same computer (Dell Inspiron 7537) and thats the fourth time I try to install Windows 10, with no luck.

The first time, I performed the update from Windows Update. It got stuck on 75% of the installation. Once I force reset, It reverted to Windows 8.

The second and the third time, I updated from here:

    Windows 10

One of them got stuck in a blue screen after the installation and configuration that said "wait a moment". I waited for an hour, restarted some times, nothing to do. I installed again Windows 8.1, updated from the link, and complete the installation and configuration, and managed to go to the desktop. It worked untill I restarted: In the next boot, the laptop freezes every time I entered the password and loaded the desktop, so I couldn't do anythin.

The forth one, I installed again Windows 8.1 (clean). During the installation, it askied me to update to Windows 10, so I accepted. Now the laptop is always stuck in welcome (or configuration) screen. It says "Hi again", with a button that says "next", but when I move the mouse or the trackpad, it freezes so I can't do anything and I have to force power off. If I connect my mouse, it doesn't even turn the lights it have on, so the laptop is totally stuck.

I'm starting to think there is some kind of incompatibility problem with our Dell.

Im going to try something different..

I followed these steps Fix for the 80240020 error when trying to install Windows 10 : windows
and am currently re downloading everything on a clean folder. My thinking is that maybe there was a corrupted file some where that prevented it installing? I have no idea if a fix for a different issue will help ours, but its worth a shot I guess.
