run the tool and choose upgrade this pc now not create installation media for another pc
I did download installation media for another pc thinking I have 2 PC so this will eliminate downloading 2x. I'll try upgrade.

Don't boot; just access the files and run setup.exe.

I did the download (Windows 10) to a USB - then booted using the USB drive. I was then asked to install, not upgrade. A window popped up asking for my key. I typed it in & it said it wasn't a valid key. What now? I'm upgrading from Win7 64 to Win10 64
Extract from my other post. I'm beginning to wonder was this just a fluke or whether the copy is going to deactivate at some future dateI-----

    I had a dual boot set-up with 8.1 and 10240.

8.1 downloaded the RTM/GA. I have not upgraded this yet.

10240 downloaded only some of the files for the upgrade so I clean installed the RTM/GA from the USB created from Microsoft. This wouldn't accept my 8.1 Pro key so I skipped the two screens for Key Input. When I checked the copy it was activated. WooHoo! I had to fiddle about to get the Fast/Slow ring option.

cyberrufus said NOT to boot but find the setup.exe (in my case it was on the USB drive) & run that from desktop. It appears to be working.

Im trying this method as I have limited space so Im hoping 9gb is enough to do the upgrade.
