    Calling all Samsung owners

There seems to be an issue with a raft of different Samsung computer products being unable to install Win 10 TP.

The issue is exactly the same for all being locked out after 3 seconds at the logo screen trying to install with either USB or DVD installer..... and then if the 'setup.exe' file is opened from within sources folder the process runs through the first stages and after the 'copying files' process it does a restart and arrives at the very same logo screen and again it stops right there with no circle of spinning dots ever appearing, even after waiting 8 hours on one attempt by me....

All machines meet the system requirements which is easily confirmed by installing 8.1. If your machine can run 8.1 then it has the ability to run Win 10 TP.

I believe this has to be BIOS by process of elimination having tried to install on an effectively brand new machine with nothing on it by using a new SSD ( and yes I've tried everything bar programming the source code directly to install this on my machine happily purring away using 8.1)

If you've had this issue with your Samsung computer product please list the full model number and importantly the BIOS manufacturer, version and date which can be found by entering msinfo32.exe into a 'Run' window command to bring up 'System Information' window.
Listed about half way down the summary page that opens in the right hand pane should be BIOS version/date

I've managed to get the attention of hopefully the right people at Samsung to check out what is conflicting with Win 10 installation process and I figure if we can discover a common denominator in the BIOS installed it may help to work out the solution.... which of course will be something really simple.... it always is in logic.

So far I've found the following with this installation error:

    RV 511 & 411 using Phoenix tech BIOS 07PA.M014.20121127
    RC 520
    N900X3A ultrabook

*If you have a Samsung which you've managed to install Win 10 TP please let me know that also with same details

    cheers,

    Nick...................

    Good onya Nevil....

Many thanks for chiming in..... that looks like a Kiwi flag you're flyin.... spent a few years there last century.

It interests me that you can install a couple of the early versions.... can you just verify that you have exactly the same issue as I explained in the first post above with trying to install 10041..... that it simply hangs at the very first logo screen and goes no further...?

If it's something different it may be an unrelated issue....please let us know the details of your fail.

I have tried clean installs, upgrading through the updates, reinstalling Windows 8.1 and using the Windows insider site, using setup on a USB, each time I get to setting up devices and then I get a blank screen sometimes with the little white circles freezing. I am using a SSD. I have also tried a standard hard drive. I have had no problems on a couple of other laptops and desktops (Asus and Dell) My screen is a 3D on my All in One.
Hope this is of some assistance
    Cheers

Have not made any progress at this end. Build 10056 gives me this error
0xC1900101-0x30017. "the installation failed in the FIRST-BOOT phase with an error during the BOOT operation
Don't know if this is of any help.

Windows 10 Technical Preview - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums

Before you get started installing Windows 10, be sure that you disable Secure Boot if you have UEFI.

You can enable Secure Boot again after Windows installation has finished if you like.

I'm not sure how it would affect a dual boot situation, but you might also disable Fast Startup in Power config.

Make certain that your machine shuts down completely before attempting the install - the fast startup if enabled only puts the machine in a hybrid sleep.

    Good luck.

Having spoken to seveal 'uber' IT pros I've come to the conclusion that for sure something in the BIOS in this machine is not allowing me to enter the logo screen background processes of a Win 10 install.

I run 8.1 happily on this machine (and in fact I now have Ubuntu in dual boot) so we know my i3 380M processor meets all the requirements for 10 to work.. all the instruction sets are in place that 10 requires.

The ideal way to install Win 10 is onto a brand new SSD.... then nothing is interfering with the install because there is no OS or apps installed.... it's just the BIOS and the hardware..

Did you disable secure boot as suggested in the post above? Also could you post a pic of your disk management

There is no secure boot function..... The BIOS in this machine has only this:
"UEFI Support"..... if enabled will allow booting into BIOS OS or UEFI OS (that's how the definition is written)

Picture of what disk management...?... I'm doing the most perfect install onto a new drive so the disk has nothing to be managed before install.

This is a machine that is 'as if' it just got made in the factory and has a brand new SSD plugged in ready to have whatever the installation requires because there's nothing on it !! Nothing is plugged in except the power lead, 8GB of RAM, 250GB empty SSD.... Latest manufacturer BIOS with UEFI support enabled.... and finally the USB installer created with Rufus in Fat32 for GPT partition on UEFI supported machine.

It stops dead at 3.3 seconds at the Windows logo screen.... I've devoted probably 40 hours attempting every possible way of installing.

I've even tried invoking the install process from an explorer window in 8.1 on a spare drive with a copy of my system image (so i don't stuff up my day to day OS) and navigating to the 'sources' file within the ISO to execute the 'setup' file. This seems like it's going to work.... stuff happens that you expect to see when going thru an OS installation.... but as soon as it needs to do a restart it stops dead at the windows logo screen.... the indicator clockwise spinning white dots NEVER appear even waiting 8 hours on one occasion.... it is stuck behind a locked door.... officially frozen !!!

Only way then is to power off and power on again with installer removed so it will boot into the 8.1..., but of course the bootloader is now corrupt from the install attempt.... so boot to my Win PE recovery to fix bootloader... then when it finally gets back into 8.1 there'a a message from the MS 'Nanny' saying Win 10 could not be installed.... like I didn't know...

so this laptop..... as good as it is running Win 8.1 in dual boot with Ubuntu.... just won't allow me to install 10 TP.

Hopefully.... but I doubt it... the official release will work on here.... No one at MS wants to be bothered trying to source the bug that prevents the install on my machine (which more than meets all requirements as listed by MS) If this was happening to lots of people and the numbers met their threshold for attention it might get worked on.... I've seen several other posts around the web by Samsung owners having this exact install fail.... but there are not enough of us to cross the threshold for MS to devote time (which is money) to fixing it.

The only way is for me to fix it myself and to do that I need to discover how to make sure the install attempt is logged and where that log will be available to view in order to see exactly which instruction is halting the install at the windows logo screen.

If anyone can teach me how to do this it would be much appreciated.... the response I got from 'The Insider Program' forum to this log process question was.... "this question is beyond the scope of the Insider forum........... that really says it all about MS and the money they won't spend.... even the official Win 10 TP 'help' forum is not moderated by anyone clever enough to know how install logging is done and retrieved.

hopefully the guys at Ubuntu community can show me how to log the install attempt process by trying to install a dual boot Ubuntu/Win 10 TP from inside a Linux terminal.

Have you made a rufus using this settings instead of the settings that you used? Try step seven if you like. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...dows-10-a.html
