What version of Win 10 is the Media Creation Tool giving?

Just for fun, I downloaded a copy of the Win 10 .ISO using the MCT.

Some of the files (like install.esd) have today's date, 9 July 2016.

I am ignorant of how to find the build number in the .ISO. Is there any chance that this is 14385, as released today?

    (ws.dat includes "ClientVersion=10.0.10586.117", which is hardly up-to-date for Win 10 1511.)

No, 1607 Build 14385.xxx is the Insider Preview while 1511 Build 10586.xxx is the RTM/Released version. I haven't checked what the MCT does lately but early last month it gave me Version 1511 Build 10586.0. Not bad since I was using it to update over Build 10240, the original RTM version. There was a update which took a couple of hours and brought it up to Build 10586.366. The 1511 means released in November 2015 and the next release will be 1607, the "Anniversary" version scheduled for Aug. 2.

As for the version in the .iso [I use it to burn the DVD rather than mount it] look at Properties of the setup.exe file and the Details tab.

If you downloaded the tool from Microsoft
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Right click on the file and select properties then select the details tab, then look for the version

    I downloaded the tool today

So, it really is producing 10586.117.

It seemed unlikely that the MCT would be serving up an insider build, even if it is near release status.

(I left the Insider program after 10240. It's fun to play with betas, but not something I wished to do forever.)

When you run the Media Creation Tool, there is a products.xml file created in C:\$Windows.~WS\Sources. In that file you will find the directories that the ISO files are downloaded from. The directory names contain the date of the ISO file it downloads. Look at what cumulative update came on that date, or the last one previous to it, and that is what build you are getting from the MCT.

The file that the current MCT downloads is:
    10586.0.160426-1409.th2_refresh_CLIENTMULTI_RET_x64fre_en-us.esd

So, the date of the build of that it downloads is April 26, 2016

    According to:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...update-history

the cumulative build for 10586.218 came out on April 12, so I am guessing that is the build you would get with the current MCT tool.

The build number of the MCT exe file itself displayed in the properties of the exe file has no reference to the build number of Windows 10 it is downloading.

If you notice on the update history page provided above, there was no build 10586.117 released as a cumulative update.
