I've decided to upgrade my Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 with the free upgrade. Unfortunately, it has been stuck "Checking for Updates" for the last 30-45 minutes. Is this normal? I've updated two laptops, one Windows 7 Home and one Windows 8 and it didn't take nearly this long. I'm afraid I'm stuck in some kind of loop. I've searched the forum and couldn't find anything.
Don't give up. I started Win 10 upgrade on Sunday, 6th, and it took 16 hours for it to complete the "Checking For Updates" to finish. I was about to dump the PC and get a new one, when I yaken another look at the monitor and behold there it was...saying it had completed the updates. I finally finish the transfer last night about 7m
Of the 6 or so machines that I have upgraded, I have never seen evidence of anything good coming out of "checking for updates" at the start of the install process. Provided you have a network card supported by Win10 natively (most are) so that you can do this after 1st Win10 boot, it makes more sense to do the upgrade offline.
It took a while...almost two hours, but I'm on windows 10 now!
