True (I sell things on ebay and I'm not a crook) but if MS say the key is not valid then the key is not valid.

Please re-read post #1. MS said that the OP's key is not valid.
Not really - one person on the other end of the phone line at MS said the OP's key is not valid. Read these forums for a week and you will read about all kinds of misinformation that some people on the other end of the phone line at MS have said.

A good start would be in post #6.
    I agree.
My response to the OP was just a suggestion.
The rest are just argumentative irrelevancy.

Before ending up with a Windows 10 Pro that cannot be activated, I would run showkeyplus from this forum. Use the check product key option, enter the purchased Windows 10 Pro product key and see if it shows as valid.

    Showkey - Windows 10 Forums
Hi thanks for that - after entering key it responded with:
Win 10 RTM Professional OEM: DM

It does sound like a counterfeit key.

However, you have not mentioned this method. Give it a try and see if the key is rejected too......................

Start button> left side, click Settings > select Update & Security > left side, click Activation > right side, click Change product key >

enter this generic Win 10 Pro product key.............. VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T >
That starts changing from Home to Pro version, but NOT activation.
After that, use your Pro key and try to activate.
EDIT: My stuff up - this process worked. Thank you very much!

Hi I tried that and it stated Error Code:0xc004f014
Did you get the error code when entering the generic Pro key or trying to activate Windows 10 Pro after it upgraded?

Please, from an elevated command prompt ("run as administrator" command prompt) type slmgr /dlv

Post a screenshot of the result window that produces. There will be no personal, unique info on it that needs to be blacked out.

Error Code 0xc004f014 is associated with KMS type activation, which if you are running a legitimately activated Windows 10 you should not be getting. slmgr /dlv will provide the info needed to determine how your Windows 10 is activated.

My apologies. I stuffed up. I entered my code rather than the generic code.
I have now entered the generic code, upgraded & then entered my code after upgrade which it accepted.
Apologies again & thanks all for your help.

Nice to hear that your Pro key from eBay is genuine.
A few bad apples do spoil the whole basket, sad to say.

You mean Microsoft said it was an invalid key? If they said it is invalid then it is (as it is their servers that validate it) and you should try to get your money back.

Yes, I must say MS were rather unhelpful in the live chat process - they couldn't email the transcript of the discussion, something that Google & Apple do without issue!
