0xC1900101 Error during upgrade to Windows 10 Home from Windows 7

I am trying to upgrade from Windows 7 Home Basic SP1 to Windows 10 Home , after first stage of setup when it restarts, I get an error SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and then after a restart I get the message "0xC1900101 - 0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation" I have done a fresh install of Win7 today and activated it successfully. After reading several threads, I updated the BIOS (Intel P6200 CPU) and the VGA driver to latest, disabled and updated many other drivers. No other software is installed apart from the basic windows. Whatever I do the same cycle repeats. Where could I be going wrong.

Don't know what program/driver/windows update is causing it. This could be an issue for upgrading. There is one other method I haven't tried. See, Microsoft wants you to upgrade to the free version. Looks more like I will be sticking...
