DONE! 。。。 helped me and I am sure it will help others too, thanks
Good。You made it. Never trust the hardware maker to get you a software that works. My experience very akin to yours. I got a Samsung SSD few years ago, comes with norton ghost software, it never works. With forum members help I was able to get it done. To make long story short. Now my 2008 era laptops work like a chime. With windows 10 everything is in good shape, hope it last for few more years.

No, now I know - and yes I am really happy it works fine!

BUT - I still have one thing to do - and find out how to do!

I just made a clone of the complete drive - so left everything as it was as I didn't want to be messing about - but it means I also moved to the SSD the outdated Windows 8 Recovery partition.

So now I have to find out if I should just delete (wipe) this whole partition - and if I can do this without messing up (bringing system out of balance or something) - or if I should replace the W8 with W10 - but if yes - how do you do this? I don't think it is possible to make a backup of system there?

I think the best would be just to remove this partition - but I am not sure.

But maybe I should start a new thread for this?

Okay - will do! (as to knowing the full abc of migrating to an SSD.....hmmm)

But since I am now an official - know-it-all - I will declare this theme - for me - dead and buried (for now )

    Hi

Personally I use Paragon software for all disk management and backup tasks, but it is not free. I know a few people who swear by MiniTool Partition Wizard for this type of task. See below for the product link and instructions for SSD transfer

MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition 9.1

Tutorial - Transfer Windows 10 to SSD with MiniTool Partition Wizard

Please read my sig with regard to backups. If you don't do a backup first and it all it goes wrong...well...you'd only have yourself to blame if you didn't backup first.

    Good luck!

I just read the info in the MTP software , since i am not going to be cloning a drive to put on another drive i plan on just using the command prompt for "Diskpart" commands on my new SSD and will use a Win 10 ISO to install clean .

Hope that works , it has in the past , i just let Windows partition the drive.

fredc - I'll just share that I issued the clean command (from a diskpart prompt) to my Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB SSD after completing the Win 10 upgrade and as last step before commencing clean install of Win10. Upon boot, I had a black bar below my Dell logo (should fill in blue and accept either an F2 or F12 keystroke) and could not get into BIOS or even boot from the USN stick with the Win10 ISO on it- nada, zippo, nothing. YMMV and it could have depended on exact sequencing that I went through. After a few hours of panic and cold sweat, I was able to revive the dead SSD by inserting it in a USB enclosure I had on hand and re-initializing it from the USB port of another machine.

I would never have done "clean" on that SSD if I had known 1) What panic would descend upon me and 2) that clean install includes being able to select all partitions on the drive and delete every one of them.

YMMV - just sharing an experience on the exact same SSD even though a different machine/BIOS/(over)enthusiastic operator.

I don't have the EVO but anyway , i did not just use the clean command , there is quite a few others i was told to follow and "clean" is just one of them . One of the commands was to select a partition so thats probably important.

I posted the commands a while back , they should be around here somewhere, i asked around a lot and the guys at "Seven Forums" guided me step by step .

If Win 10 is different regarding adding a new SSD than i'm screwed lol.
