    Upgrade will not install

After talking to MS support about no activation on clean install. I was told to reinstall win 8.1 pro and upgrade again and wait for email with win 10 key number. Reinstalled 8.1 and it was activated. Started upgrade again and it works great right up to the point it requires win 10 key. There is no "skip" and the next button is greyed out unless a key is typed in. Any ideas of what to do now?

During the upgrade(not clean install) the key is read from the registry and is automatically entered(for clean install after the upgrade your key will be read from your motherboard if this PC came with Windows 8 or 8.1)

Key is not being read from anywhere. It is requiring me to type in the key. Have a total of 6 keys for Windows 8.1 that I received during my Tech Net Subscription days. Tried all 6 none work. Like I said after reinstalling Win 8.1 it was registered. According to MS Community, you can only skip those screens on a clean install. The PC did not come with any OS as I custom built it.

How are you doing the upgrade? Did you or are you using MediaCreationTool? If so, are you sure you are getting the right version of Windows 10?

Have downloaded windows 10 Pro x64. This is what it showed on clean install. I upgraded from windows 8.1 pro so this shouldn't be a problem.

    That sounds right?

Don't mean to nag but I've had several problems reported here that were caused by the wrong version being downloaded.

Where are you located, US, Europe, ??? Any possibility you have a N version, Windows 8 Pro N?

Yes I have the 81 Pro N, and I am in the US. This version will convert to 10 Pro the way it did ion the other PC. Have done a lot more reading on the subject and it seems that the only way to get back to the upgrade is a reinstall of 8.1 Pro. The major hang up to this is that once reinstalled "all" updates must be installed. Not sure exactly but there seem to be about 5GB of updates to the 3GB program. Very time consuming. At some point near the end of doing the updates, the windows flag reappears on the task bar and you can reserve the upgrade via Windows Update again. Have reserved mine. Of course after seven hours of updates, while installing the last batch I get a blue screen stating that updates didn't install properly and were being removed. After three hours of that screen, I started all over again. What a pain.

I think you need to download trhe N versions then:

“N” and “KN” editions follow the upgrade path of the parent edition (e.g., Windows 7 Professional N upgrades to Windows 10 Pro N).
Says 7 but the same is true for 8 and 8.1.
