Product key question

No. It prompts for a Windows 10 key. You skip that and enter your MS ID later and then it ties the upgrade to your ID, as far as I have been able to ascertain anyways.
If you wish to take advantage of the free upgrade, you have to install 10 as an upgrade over an activated qualifying OS (7, 8.1). it has to be a full upgrade, keeping all of your files, settings, and applications. (If you don't keep those, it'll still install, but not activate.)
After you have done that once, you can clean install 10 on the same hardware using the free upgrade, and the result will activate. The installer will ask for a key, but you can skip entering one and the installation will proceed.
The Windows 10 installer will not accept a Windows 7 or 8 license key.
I entered my MS account during the install, but I don't believe that is necessary. I think it's based on a hardware hash code similar to that used by the activation servers since time immemorial. (Since XP, anyway.)
