Look in the power options and see if it is on...by default it is...nothing to do with what you are saying. I think you may have a piece of hardware that is set in its properties to sleep to save power, which works in most scenarios for the machine. Yet when the machine is set for Fast Start and does its hybrid power thing, the other pieces of hardware that really like a clean boot in the mornings start playing the fool. I know, it sounds crazy but its a machine...

I checked, remotely: "Turn on fast start (recommended)" is enabled.

Done! Surprisingly, it didn't prompt me to reboot.

It only has effect on cold boot not on restarts, just havin' problems with it recently in some builds...see if you have different behaviour over the next couple days with it off.

Thanks. I'll shutdown and then power on. I'll also refrain from installing the Windows 8 driver ... or a replacement graphics card. :)

No issues after ~48 hours. But this problem has come and gone over the months, sometimes taking weeks to re-appear. Once it recurs, it usually happens often.

Three weeks have passed; still no issues.

About a week ago, I upgraded to Windows 10 Version 1709. Just now I noticed that "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" has become re-enabled -- not by me; perhaps it was the result of performing the upgrade. I'll leave it enabled.

    Very strange.
