Everything works fine until I do not use for awhile

when i go to wake it up- I get the sequence that i described
That's what I thought you had said.

I have played around with a lot of settings and I may have it resolved by using other forum threads and turning all power and sleep settings to "never"- we shall see

I am also a puzzle solver enthusiast

When I have encountered this problem and turn monitor on and off it shows no input found with a cursor next to DVI
That's also what I thought you said; however, if you can't get the monitor to work, how are you posting? Do you have a second computer, or maybe you shut the computer down and reboot?

I think that's the part we're not understanding.

Since I am using a VGA connection- I was wondering where or how to move that cursor to VGA

Where exactly in any settings is that able to be accomplished?

    Thank You
As TC said, there are no Windows settings to accomplish that.

Do you have a user guide/manual to the monitor? Mine has a row of buttons on the bottom right that I can adjust certain things with, like Menu, game mode, brightness and source. Could it be possible one of those buttons got out of sync?

    I just reboot

i hit all those buttons on bottom right of monitor
    MENU brings up OSD LOCKOUT

Hit MENU again and it goes away

That means On Screen Display Lockout. Press and hold the keys, not just hit. See what happens.

    Your manual....best I could find: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00834092

Turns out, after playing around, that the problem does not have anything to do with monitor settings.

The lock up occurs whenever the disc goes to sleep- it just does not "wake up"

I moved hard disk power back to 3 hours- but if I leave- ;ock up

    Any thoughts?

An update must have changed something

    Thank You
    - absolutely

That is the only way it works

I am hoping however that there can be a fix other than leaving the drive spinning 24/7

I'm glad that worked, but I agree.....it's a band-aid. Can't think of anything else right off the top of my head. I'll see if I can find any more help.

Hi Tony. This is a small world indeed. I have a friend who is having the same issue as you but on a dc5700. His issue started after the feature update so I think this is driver.

Now what he found is after sleep if he unplugged monitor from PC and plugged it back in it would wake up. I saw you posts about harddrive.

His fix, as we were doing this quite remotely, was to leave iTunes running 7/24.

Might I ask, can you return your HDD to a normal sleep setting, let it sleep and when you want to wake it up, do so, but then remove video cable from back of PC and then plug back in. Post back results please. Do this only if you have time.

What display adapter do you have listed in device manager. It appears your box has integrated ATI chip? Does your box?

I also noticed that BIOS is two years older than one posted on site, and seven years older than the most recent. There are firmware upgrades for just about every disk they shipped with unit and updates to the Intel Management Engine. This is just an observation. I'm going to try and contact my friend in morning, see if he too is back dated in maintenance. This could be the classic red herring.

    1 Intel(R) q33 express chipset family (microsoft corporatione - WDDM 1.0)

2 Intel Management Engine? I hit update drivers on the 2 lines i had for Intel core processors and they said I had the correct one.
Are you suggesting that i do some thing else/ I do not know what
    Intel Management Engine is.

    3. Bios update- i am running HP support assistant again to see if it shows any needed updates. If that finds nothing- and I have ran it b4
how do i step by step update BIOS ?
I have right clicked on most items in device manager (there is no BIOS listing) and all drivers are up to date.

You have to update BIOS from HP. Go here and search for BIOS Update for your computer:

It will want you to sign in, or I would have given you a link.
