When I boot up my computer the secondary monitor wakes up first, also. Then my main monitor wakes up after Windows gets to the log in screen. I think this happens because of the BIOS settings. I change something in my BIOS a while back, and it acted differently. So try that. You can change your quick boot settings to see what happens, but only do this if you feel comfortable with changing the BIOS.
thank you since i was clear.

It was regarding "fast boot settings". Do you know how you see your motherboard type, manufacturer, memory, and all of that when your computer boots up? I remove that setting. I just get a blank screen with no information about my manufacturer, etc. It just boots to Windows.
yea i'm completely use to my bios, been building systems since 96. i'll try the bios, but both secure and fast boot are turned off. thing is i'll be on the other monitor cause it's what turns on first.

ok not a perfect solution but it works. realized i should try switching the cables. now as far as windows is concerned the older monitor is primary and i can't change it, but boot uses the monitor i wanted and doesn't turn on the old one. oh by the way nothing in the bios, would of made t so much simpler if here was. thanks again it was your suggestion that made me think to switch the cables.

Yes it is. If you know your system, you do not need it unless you get dementia .

got it completely figured out. it's just too funny. video card considers dvi primary and windows considers hdmi primary. at least now with tyhe cables switched during a reboot display is on my primary monitor even though windows considers it the secondary monitor.
