No 1920x1080 resolution while using Windows 10

Hey. I had the same problem. After doing online research, here's what worked for me.

[Step 1] Uninstall all display drivers using this utility provided by wagnardsoft.com "DDU (display driver uninstaller)"

[Step 2] Manually download (do not use auto detect) AMD/Nvidia display driver from thier website and install. Done!

If you are using HDMI cables they have to be of a decent standard to present 1080p full HD content to a monitor - what's confusing now is that HDMI has 3 current levels - the highest being HDMI 2.2 which is needed for 4K (UHD) content. I think for full 1080p content you will need HDMI 2.0 cables.

Upgrading is always a bit of a pain but I'm getting cheesed off now when not only does one have to upgrade hardware but the !!!!!Cables as well !!!!!.

Not sure about DVI connections.

If you've solved the problem - great stuff - I'm just posting this info for people (and loads more are doing it) who want to use 4K UHD monitors and also play full UHD 4K content on them --- Once you've used a decent 4K monitor you'll never want to go back to even 1080p standard !!!! and believe it or not it is HUGELY better on TEXT so if you do a load of text it really IS worth upgrading as prices of these things come down. You might get away with cheap HDMI cables for some 1080p monitors - but on 4K with 4K video content -- not a chance !!!!.

SKY Q (4K) and Virgin UHD box users - take note - these boxes are incredibly fussy.

There is some actual good advice on this thread. Unfortunately I just tried all of it prior to reading it. My system was running Windows 10 for a year this way with VGA cable, 1080 and Radeon 3300 Graphics. It just started acting funny - locked up and when it recovered I no longer had 1080 and no way to get it back.

I want to set some thing straight... 1920 x 1080 does not require a special cable even on Windows 10 if your GPU and Monitor support it. VGA, Any DVI, DP(Display Port), HDMI, etc will work. If you are going HIGHER resolution you will need to have a DVI-D aka DVI Dual Link cable or HDMI min 1.4 but preferable 2.0 cable or dispaly port of at least 1.2. I have NEVER had an issue with 1080 on any old cheap cable. It just ins't that high of a resolution.
How do I know this? I am responsible for about 200 dual monitor computers all running 1080 or higher and 95% windows 10. I have 1080, 2k and 4k monitors in the mix. There is a complete mix of cables as well. The older systems are almost exclusively VGA cables.

I lost my 1920x1080 option yesterday, suddenly, and out of the blue. While I was reading a forum post, my screen went blank and then came back at 1280x960 resolution. After reading this thread, I managed to roll back to a previous driver.

A few minutes ago, Windows 10 updated on my computer, and I lost my 1920x1080 resolution AGAIN. This time it gave me no roll back option. I had to go into Device Manager, to Display adapters, right-click my ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series, go to Update Driver, click on "Browse my computer for driver software", "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer", and skip the top three options which were all the same (Version 22.19.128.0 [7/25/2017]) to use Version 8.970.100.9001 [1/13/2015].

This is where I would normally rant about "the good old days" but I won't subject anyone to that. You can probably imagine how it would go, if you'd like. Start with "In my computing days..." and then make it all sound easy.

Something is def up, I left and came back and now the highest resolution is 1600 x 1200.
I reset win10, didn't do anything cept got rid of a lot of programs I never used anyway. I know the card is no longer supported and all roads lead to using the generic Win drive, it says the unit is up to date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. Even made a thread about it.
I have the same card. Where can you get this older driver?

Can confirm this, just started happening yesterday on other PC that has ATI HD 4600 series. AMDCleanupUtility got rid of the drivers and reinstall helped, but only for about 5-10 minutes, then it got back to low resolution again, without the possibility to change to FULL HD resolutions. I would appreciate info about list of available drivers too. On AMD site there is only for WIN 8 and it's early 2014 version (13.1 or 13.4 beta)
