Caledon Ken, thanks for the great suggestions! I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop and just started having the reported issue. I disabled the driver updates as you instructed and then rolled back the NVidia GeForce driver. This actually didn't fix it. Then I went back and rolled back the Intel 630 Integrated Graphics Driver and all was good again!

I'll leave updates turned off. I also follow your same belief that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

    Thanks again.

Hi ccmp99. Welcome to the TenForums @ccmp99

First open device manager, find adapter, right click on it, then properties, then driver. Should be an option to roll back.

If your Update was FCU (Fall Creator Update) that option won't be available. You will need to find driver, hopefully on Dell site, more likely on NVidia site.

    Install it.

Then tell windows and NVidia to lay off updating your driver. I think for NVidia this is done in the GeForce experience app. For Windows, Windows Key + R, type sysdm.cpl, enter. Click on Hardware tab, then Device Installation Settings, then "NO".

Same problem -- not the same version numbers (I have a Dell laptop), but rolling back the driver via Device Manager seems to have worked. That's another thing I'll point out -- you can roll back just this driver in Device Manager rather than doing a total restore, especially since the update appeared in the Windows 10 settings page but not Control Panel. For a bit there I thought this was a new hardware issue, but this thread saved me an unwanted trip back to the store.

can you tell me maybe what updates are the updates that works for you? so i will update it manually.

Hi Ken, Engrzeezhan, and everyone. I deeply appreciate everyone's time and expertise here. I'm new in this Forum but have read some of your support posts.
This issue Vertical Lines after Sleep mode. This issue ONLY appeared after this latest automatic Windows 10 update. (sigh....) - I have a M32 series Asus desktop. Dell monitor shows the vertical lines. Device Manager disallows "roll back" of the Dell monitor driver. (it's greyed out) - I want / need to do this.... alternatively, I read where I can disable Windows 10 updates, and then Restore the System to a Restore point. BUT I'm quite a dweeb tech phobe and if possible........... Can you please reply with step by step instructions on how to: 1) Roll back the video driver (or the monitor driver?) to eliminate this vertical lines problem (again, the "roll back" option is greyed out in Device Manager)
    or
    2) How to Restore this Windows 10 OS to a Restore Point (?)
    or
    3) An alternative solution that I found yet!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! - This is brutal.

EEEK! Asus desktop (M32) has this brutal issue. I'm anxious/lame to try "clean windows install"etc. Asus is not helpful. How to find/install/roll-back an older video card driver? PLEASE? The "roll back" option in device manager is greyed out of this Dell monitor. Thank you! David -

Hi TheMeetingGuy. Welcome to the forum.

Sorry... which thing do you want to do. Clean or roll back. I think clean will get you right back to where you are as Windows will install a driver and even disconnected from the Internet it maybe the same version as this one.

If rollback is not available then you have to manually roll it back. First identify the driver you have by using device manager, find the adapter , right click, properties and get version number. Then find the driver you want to install. Sometimes these come in the form of an exe. So run the exe and if it shows you where it unpacked driver make a note of it. Usually on C: in folder, you likely will notice a new one in file explorer if you look at C:

Next we have to tell Windows to layoff the driver updates. Windows key + R, type sysdm.cpl, click on Hardware tab, click on Device Installation settings, click on No. If we don't do this Windows will cruise by a some point and help you by updating the driver.

Then into device manager, find the adapter, click Update Driver. Then click "Browse my computer for driver software. Then in the location bar enter the location or browse to it. If you don't know where choose "Let me pick from a.....". If you use let me pick I wish it would show Version numbers. Little trial and error. Once installed check version in device manager to confirm change has taken place.

Now I've made the assumption you can get into Windows. If you can't and you can get to password screen, click on power icon lower right, then hold shift key down and click Restart. This will take you to the Advance Start Options and from there you can boot to safe mode. I would download driver on another computer as sometimes safe mode with networking fails to start networking. (???)

Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10

Once in safe mode you can go through the steps above. Will be in and out today. I will check back. Other members can assist.

    Why hasn't MS fixed this?

I have a Dell desktop PC and had it set to sleep only when away from several hours. This issue only started after the recent fall update. Now I just set it to 'never' and I'm okay with it (I shutdown at night). But why hasn't MS come out with a fix for this in their cumulative updates. I know there was at least one since the fall update and they fixed other things, so why not this?

Hi JAT. Welcome to TenForums @JAT

From what I've read this is a driver issue and MS does not fix manufacture drivers. It might be argued that they should take that driver down from Window Updates however it is likely the driver is valid on a majority of gear. That is a speculation.

I would be reporting issue on Windows Feedback Hub but I would also be going straight to Intel, not sure where in this very large corporation, and voicing my concerns there.

My MSI laptop downloaded/installed the Windows 1709 update (Fall Creator Update, I assume) on Friday and now I'm having this problem. I am not a tech person at all, so I'm just blindly stumbling around for a fix, but nothing is really seeming like the correct answer in my case.

I can't roll back my graphics card drivers through device manager. I'm assuming the graphics cards in question are an Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, but the Device Manager info on both of those say their drivers are dated 7/24/2017 and 5/1/2017 respectively, so I don't understand why they would be the problem.

Either way, I would not understand how to install drivers manually anyway -- which version do I look for? Where do I look? How do I know if it's compatible with my specific computer?

I am terrified of rolling back the full windows update, since I don't know what that will do -- I've never done anything like that before. I don't have an external harddrive I could use to back up my files right now. Anyway, I understand that rolling the update back will just be a band-aid on the problem, since I will eventually have to update it again.
