Intel HD Graphics Driver Update Failed

Product Name: HP ENVY DESKTOP 750 124
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Support Assistiant Action Log reported an update was needed for th Intel HD Graphics Driver.* Upon exectucting the update a message box indicates "A seperate installer has lauched. You may need to perform necessary actions to complete the installation."* At about the same time an Install Shield Wizard box appears. When I comply with all insturctions an Overwrite Protection box appears.* It states the files is already installed.* Upon further research I find the Intel HD Graphics Driver is dated 2017 where as the HP Intel driver is dated 2016.* To install the latested Intel HD Graphics Driver I am cautioned that I would be installing a genertic Intel HD Graphics Drives which may cause my HP to lose driver functionality.

Being stuck inbetween a rock and a hard place what should I do?

When installing or updating drivers the best source is the computer manufacturer (hp, dell, etc.).
If a driver is needed an is not offered by the computer manufacture the best source is the the component manufacturer (nvidia, intel, etc.).
For HP there are multiple methods to install drivers and the number of options vary depending on whether it is a consumer or business line.
The options available for most HP computers is the HP support assistant.
There is also the HP softpaq download manager.
And there are direct downloads from the HP website (software and drivers):
HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support

On the HP web site they have available the revision history for the HP supported drivers.
Windows by default updates non-Microsoft drivers.
Intel has software to search for and download drivers: Intel Driver and Support Assistant
So it is possible that you could have gotten the current Intel driver from one of the above methods other than the HP support assistant.
The driver date that you reported is 2017 vs the other one which is 2016.

For some older computers the computer manufactures only support drivers for windows 7 and 8 and have not supported drivers for windows 10. In situations like this it is likely that you will end up at sometime using drivers from the component manufacturer.

Currently you have a graphics driver in which you have not reported BSOD, freezing, temperature problems, or display artifacts.

So continue to enjoy using the driver that you are currently using.
