    passive or active adapter

I just purchased an EVGA GTX 1060 and I have 2 monitors that have a DVI port and a VGA port. If I use a DVI to display port adapter or cable, does the adapter or cable need to be passive or active?

    Difference Between DVI-I and DVI-D | NVIDIA
DVI-D sends only digital signal and needs an active adapter to VGA. DVI-I can use passive adapter.

You can't go from DVI to DP, only DP to DVI or HDMI etc.

or are you just using the term DisplayPort loosely ?

Just bought a DP to HDMI cable to hook my daughter`s HP to her new 32" HDTV so I can get rid of the PC speakers.

in order not to fail, i suggest strongly active adapter. that way you can be sure the stuff is fixed correctly by the electrics.

Thanks everyone....I ended up getting 2 Coboc Display Port to DVI-D Single link Active Video Adapters. They work flawlessly and best part is I only paid $8.99 for each of them. Here's a link..... Coboc 3 ft. USB 2.0 A Male to Micro-B 5-pin Male Cable -Newegg.com
