Windows 10: GMA3100 driver crap performance

I just gave pre-CU Windows 10 a spin on the exact same hardware (sans hard drive) with the exact same GPU drivers, and oh my word, it's like a different computer. Smooth like butta.

So much time wasted because of a SEVERE CORE OS BUG. Unbelievable. How did MS manage to ship this OS with such a severe and obvious performance regression.

Then, as I guesses, your problem relies on the new driver model CU is introducing, which is causing TONS of problems and bugs on users... it's a shame, because I loved a lot of new features they added (Like being able to schedule cleaning your temp files from time to time automatically), but just as you, I got a lot of performance issues, specially with programs that use OpenGL and the GPU intensily.

Versions 1511 and 1607 are unafected because they rely on the WDM 2.1 (IIRC), while 1703 introduces WDM 2.2, which is the culprit of all the failures happening recently.

If you can, you can stick with 1607 instead of 1511, 1607 works faster, gives better boot times and will get more support than 1511, which will be deprecated very soon... avoid 1703 at least for a year, until MS realizes how to fix the bugs they introduce everytime they do a major OS release...

Intel GMA 3100 doesn't work well with WDDM 2.2 unfortunately. Just roll back with 1607. If 1607 doesn't work well, go back to 1511. If 1511 fails. Switch back to Windows 7 or get a graphics card that isn't DirectX 10-capable only.

RoasterMan, if that's the case, then it's a bug, plain and simple. Windows 10 up to and including CU is on the record as supporting display drivers written to the WDDM 1.0 spec.

I'm starting to think this may be a Creators Update bug.
The problem started at least 6 months earlier than that!

The G31/G33 integrated graphics drivers under Windows 10 were struggling to perform properly under Insider Preview build 14391 in September 2016:

14901 expiring, 14931 unusable - how to remain an Insider on this PC? Solved - Windows 10 Forums

Although working perfectly for desktop apps, all the modern windows apps, Start, settings and so-on were just unusable.

I purchased an inexpensive Nvidia PCI-e card: ASUS Nvidia GeForce GT 710-2-SL and never looked back.

    Interesting, and thanks for that!

So, the problem has existed for that long, but nobody ever bothered to file an official report on it with MS?
