Windows 10 keeps downgrading my AMD drivers

    Hello.

I have tried to install the latest BETA drivers (17.5.1) from AMD for my RX 480 video card but every time I install them, windows removes them and installs 17.1.1.

I have tried literally everything from disabling driver updates in windows to using the registry hack to stop it.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance.

Well the AMD driver versions of 17.4.x, 17.5.x have a major bug with programs and games currently, Affecting R7/R9 Cards, 400 Series, and 500 Series on Creators Update of Windows 10, I solved mine by using Group Policy and then it stopped trying to downgrade even further to 17.1.1, and i'm running version 17.3.3 currently as it's the most stable right now

Though on Windows 10 Home don't think you have Group policy feature, so not sure if you'll have to remain on 17.1.1 til a fixed AMD version out, but perhaps others will have more ideas in there replies

More Detailed Info on AMD forums related to the buggy drivers...

Uninstall your current drivers with DDU. This program reboots to safe mode for the uninstall, cleans the leftover files, and prevents windows from automatically downloading updates. I swear by it and so do the guys over at geforce forums. They have it pinned.

I've tried this many times, but Windows keeps installing 17.1.1. :/

Go into device manager and rollback the device driver (from the WU version to the NVIDIA Beta version).

Next, download and run this MS utility to block only the specific WU driver in question.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...-in-windows-10

Run it and tick the box next to the driver you want to keep WU from auto downloading and installing:

    Note:
The Anniversary version continues to work beyond that edition. I have used it on build 16199 without issue.

This should keep your Beta driver installed until you decide to change it.

    Cheers,

This just happen to me on a fresh install of Windows 10 on my nephew's Dell G3 laptop, I had a Intel UHD graphics driver version 24.x downloaded directly from Intel's website and Windows 10 decided to downgrade to a driver version 23.x on Windows update.

My steps for installing fresh Windows (been doing this for 20 years):

    - Install Windows though selected media.
    - Skip connecting to internet (either WiFi or Ethernet).
    - Install all the latest drivers from manufacturer website or from official OEM websites (I usually have all these drivers downloaded before hand and/or stored on media).
    - Connect online to activate Windows and download the latest Windows updates.

The post above is the correct way to resolve this issue for Windows 10 Home users however I still find it retarded that Windows (10) update would go ahead and install an older driver for my hardware albeit it's still newer than the one's offered on the manufacturer's website in my case Dell but older than the one I installed from Intel (OEM).

    Edit:

I found out the culprit of the problem with my Windows update downgrading my Intel display driver.Turns out the driver I downloaded from Intel's website does not support my CPU since Intel's UHD graphics is an IGP it's tied to the CPU if that makes any sense.

What's weird is the latest graphics driver from Intel allowed me to install the driver without incompatibility warning, I found this out when downloading a 24.x Intel display driver from Dell, during the installation process there was a warning and the driver refused to install.

I ended up downloading the latest 23.x Intel display driver that supports my CPU from Dell in which I found one newer than Windows update and installed it, no more Windows update trying to downgrade my Intel display driver...
