Windows 10 Creators update - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 driver issues

    Hello community!

I have upgraded my Vaio to Windows 10 Aniversary update earlier this year and had some troubles with the GPU drivers - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. After many tries and searches I have managed to find a functional driver, version 8.723.8.2000 from Vaio UK's website.

If I am using any newer version of the GPU driver I cannot watch any movies and I can't remote play on my PS :/ Because I have disabled GPU driver updates via Microsoft's Show/Hide update utility I can use my Vaio without issues.

Yesterday I have upgraded to Creators update and unfortunately my old driver does not work anymore... In device manager I get this error "Windows cannot use this hardware device (Code 47)"
With newer ATI drivers, the error disappears but I still cannot remote play or play any videos/movies.

I am looking for a solution to make Creators update accept my old Vaio Radeon 8.723.8.2000 driver and somehow bypass the Code 47 error. Is there any workaround to fool Windows into accepting my driver?

    Thank you!
    Paul

Hi paulie. Welcome to the TenForums @paulie

Have you tried installing the old driver in compatibility mode. Right click on exe, then left on Properties. In the window that opens you click on Compatibility.

    It's a long shot.

    Hi Caledon Ken!
The drivers are installing fine, there are no compatibility issues reported by Windows. However I did not specifically install the driver using compatibility mode.
I have reverted back to anniversary edition so its not so easy to test it out

Okay. You can try again when it happens. You will likely be late on the list for MS to initiate the update. The Creator update is being rolled out and as this happens MS is learning and fixing. No guarantee they will be better with the old driver at a later date.

I had an old 6000 series and threw in the towel. AMD has given up support and that meant it was time for me to move on for my primary device.

Thank you for your help. Small chances that the drivers will be accepted in the future. Either I stop watching movies / remote play PS or I do not upgrade to Creators. :)
