i5 a Bottleneck for GTX 1080 SLI?

I am thinking about picking up another 1080 in order to run them in SLI. The question I have is will my current i5 4690K be a bottleneck for two GTX 1080's running in SLI?

No.....you'll be fine on that.

The only issue you may have is with your current PSU. That MSI GPU draws 180 watts of power and the recommended minimum is a 500 watt PSU. So now you need to multiply that by 2 on the power draw which is 360 watts and then factor in all your other components. Use one of those online PSU calculators to confirm whether you will be OK or need a new PSU.

With the amount of money I would be spending to by another 1080 as well as another power supply, I may as well buy a 1080ti.

I'm not a big fan of SLI or Crossfire for GPU's......to much to factor in and to much to go wrong not to mention the cost factor. Although there are those out there that love it and swear by it, it's not my cup of tea.

I like the logic of 1 GPU, either the Ti or Titian X .....if it's with in budget.

SLI can be very hit and miss and can cause a lot of issues. It would be more cost effective to sell your current 1080 and buy a 1080ti.

To play devil's advocate, I doubt that a single 1080ti or a Pascal Titan X would have the performance of two 1080s in SLI.

(I also wonder whether the extra VRAM on the Titan X would be of much use unless you used a pair of them in SLI.)

However, the specs on your PSU state that it only has 3 PCI-E power connectors. If the 1080s that you use each have 2, you'd have to fake it up with adapters (from the Molex connectors, probably) or buy a new PSU. I think that your PSU has enough capacity, but it's not oversupplied with PCI-E connectors.

Personally, I've done SLI (and Crossfire). Heck, I did SLI back in the 3dfx days, when SLI meant Scan Line Interleaving. I'm not doing it now, and I may never do it again.

GPU's in SLI can look awesome in a high-end build and SLI 1080's will probably perform better than a single 1080ti, however, the performance boost will not be significant and certainly will not be cost effective.

SLI can cause lots of issues such as Micro stutter.

If you do decide to run SLI be sure to get an HB SLI bridge.
