I built a new system(with old motherboard) and installed win 10 using onboard graphics. Then when I put my brand new gtx 1050 in it just shows the splash screen and beeps 8 times meaning "display memory read/write error" and wont boot to bios or windows. Bios version is from 2011. Could that be the problem?

The short answer has to be yes. That said the card could be defective, not everything works new. Of course sticking in a 2016 video card into what is likely a late 2010 MB could lead to some compatibility issues. The maker of the card may be able to give you a direct and meaningful answer in terms of MB/chipset and compatibility.
Are you supplying enough power to the system. I read it does not need a separate power plug but you still need enough overall from Power supply.
You didn't mention the MB you are using or card manufacture. Can you share? Might help in getting answer.
The vendor is likely going to have the most definitive answer.

Jetway nf9f-h61 is the MB and the card is the msi mini OC one. It got other faulty reviews on ebay so I'm thinking it's the card. Just ordered a 1050 ti to test it out.
On the MB website it says theres a bios parch to fix "Over 2G ram VGA card boot issue". What does that mean. This is probably the issue
I FIXED IT! Had to flash the bios, god I feel smart as hell
