I just installed new AMD drivers for GPU (17.1.2) and it promptly "killed" one of my monitors. Had to revert to an older one and only updates I'm getting is for updating that driver. That entailed going to safe mode but it's royally screwed up. Flashing screen, no prompt for restore point. Managed to use New Task to run msconfig and reverted to normal mode.
Drivers updated to 17.1.1 and now it works OK.

Thanks, I looked up just yesterday and only 17.1.2 was available but that one made me problems. Hope this one is better.

Probably --NOT. I tried installing 17.2.1 four different ways: (1 & 2) Using the AMD desktop Window, clean install and express install, (3 & 4) downloading and running the AMD installer - clean install and express install.

And in all four cases, it errored out. Looked at the logs and all it said was Failed -- no error messages.

And, to make matters worse, when it "repaired" the damage and rolled back the driver, instead of putting me back to 17.1.2, it put me back to 16.x.

I've since restored the PC to back where it was with 17.1.2.

So, make an image backup before you try 17.2.1 -- you might need it!

I have upgraded just fine to the new version. It looks, that you need to perform some maintenance.

Fortunately it updated from 17.1.1 just fine, not a WDM though.

"some maintenance" -- not very helpful, just vague.
