Got it to work. I went into Device Manager and right clicked the display adaper. I asked to update the Intel Graphic one and it did it.

When I install the Intel driver per ComputerGeek I get this:

The computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.

This is becoming frustrating. Why should installing a second monitor be so difficult.
It shouldn't be difficult at all! ARGHH Forgive the basic question, but you've checked cable securely attached and monitor is turned ON?

    1. Curious to see what you currently have. Run dxdiag (see HERE). Click Save All Information button to your Desktop as DxDiag.txt
    2. Run the Intel Driver Update tool. Does it make suggestions? Install the drivers it suggests
    3. Check if new monitor detected
    4. If still a problem, run dxdiag again, this time save as Dxdiag2.tx
    5. Attach both files to next post so we can have a look (see Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Ten Forums)

p.s. Updating via Device Manager checks Microsoft for updates. Glad it worked but also suggest you might be behind in running/applying available Windows Updates for your machine. Click Settings->System->Updates. Click Advanced Options. May as well check box to "Get products for other MS products" too. Then go back and run Windows update.
