    Drivers

I did install the driver I found on ViewSonic web page. Where do I find the .inf file? I found the one for Windows 10 64 bit. That did not work. I then installed the driver for Windows 10 Undefined and that did not work.

The drivers found on monitor web sites only install color palettes to assist rendering. Did you install the graphics driver for your notebook?

Yikes. In fact i see HP has multiple choices for graphics drivers, both AMD and Intel and one for Intel specifically if running Win 10 version 1607.
    • You can run Speccy (freeware version) to confirm if graphics card AMD or Intel.
    • If Intel, click on Settings icon (back in Windows, not Speccy) select System. Scroll down and click About. You'll see the version number. (it's probably 1607) For version 1607, note HP has a group named Driver-Graphics and another named Driver-Graphics-Intel. The latter has the Win 10 version 1607 driver

HERE's where i found the HP drivers (please double check it's the right one for you model

Then under Drivers-Graphics install Intel driver dated Apr 15, 2016. Once detected, THIS HP link may also help in setup

Download the graphics driver from the laptop manufacturer's website. It is highly recommended for Laptops.

The 'drivers' as such are usually just an *.INF and *.ICM colour profile files.
You won't see anything happening unless you look at Colour profiles in Windows when you should find an entry for your monitor.
The INF just details the range of settings available for that particular monitor, modern monitors send that info back anyway, so not essential for it to work.

Look in Your Device Manager. Right click Start > Device Manager > Monitors, to see if it is listed there. Should be two of course.
Swop to another HDMI lead, check sockets and plugs for damage/dust.

When I install the Intel driver per ComputerGeek I get this:

The computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.

This is becoming frustrating. Why should installing a second monitor be so difficult.
