Geforce 760 fan spinning uncontrollably

Hello again,

since a couple of days, I have a problem with the fans of my gfx card, a Nvidia Geforce 760.

The fan would constantly start spinning at max speed for maybe 5 seconds, before cooling off again for another 5 seconds. It is a constant up and down and by now it is driving me nuts - besides the fact that in the long run it will be probably damaging the hardware, I assume.
I can't seem to find a solution. I am currently using the latest drivers (376.19), but I have also tried the one that come with Windows Update (353.something).

I have tried Speedfan and MSI Afterburner, but any changes I have made in those programs didn't seem to have any effect.

The only time in which the fans stay in control is when I uninstall all drivers completely - which is, obviously, not a solution.

Anyone who can give a hand?

Thanks for the suggestion.. I have done it before - the card is dust clean (and was before), but the problem still occurs.

Another thing that I noticed, however, was that when I start Windows in safe mode, I don't have the problem either. So my pick is that it is something software-related, still..

Are you monitoring the GPU temps to see if they rise and fall rapidly? You might want to try an earlier driver, say in the 368.xx series to see if that fixes it. Lots of users have been affected by bad drivers recently.

Try leaving the PC off for 10-20 hours then try cleaning the fan (Don't use water and don't blow into the fan because dust might get deeper into the fan) if that doesn't work, it's probably a problem with software than. Hope this helped

I have tried an even older driver version than the 368 series already; I still gave it a try with that one, but again no change - except for the short period between uninstalling the old and installing the new one. The temperatures don't do anything; they are sitting at a constant ~30°C.

Also, the card is most definitely dust-free.
