HDMI 2 connection to TV from laptop has suddenly stopped working

Suddenly my HDMI 2 connection with the LG TV has stopped working.

When I switch in Input to HDMI 2 it comes up on screen Connecting as usual but then reverts to no signal.

I’ve taken the lead out and in again but it still won’t connect.

I note when researching this problem some people are suggesting graphic driver updates and I did start with a Microsoft thing but cancelled cos I was worried in case it was not legit or virus etc.
I'm an oldie and nervous of this stuff.
I haven’t changed anything – it was working earlier but just didn’t work when I switched as usual to HDMI 2
I do hope somebody can help me
    Many thanks

Press the Windows Logo key on your keyboard and the P key. Then select "Extend" or "Second screen only", and see if that fixes it. If it toggled back to PC Screen only there won't be any signal out for the TV to detect.

Thanks so much Alphanumeric - you have saved my bacon!
In the end I settled for the Duplicate button which seems to have solved the sound problem.
All my icons on the Desktop seems jumbled around but I can sort that easily.
So what does this actually mean Alpha? Is there something wrong that I must put right or will it be ok to stay on Duplicate?

It just means it set itself back to "PC Screen Only" somehow. I use a USB monitor on my laptop as a second screen. If I boot that laptop up without it plugged in, it defaults to "PC Screen Only". If its plugged in when I boot it up it usually goes to "Extend" all on its own. Every once in a while though I have to change to Extend manually. In Duplicate mode both monitors will just mirror each other. If one display has a smaller resolution I "think" they both. default to the smaller resolution. That can mess up your icons/tiles. Most laptops have a function key to toggle video out the external port. On my laptop its Fn and F8 or F9. Maybe you clicked that by mistake when meaning to adjust the volume or screen brightness. the + P does that same thing as that special function key, as far as I know anyway.

Thanks for all that very useful info which I will keep and pass on.
At least I'll know what to if it happens again.
