A problem with NVIDIA GeForce GT 220

Hey guys,

I got a new PC yesterday (well, for me it's new) but it has problem with the video card. Windows 10 isn't detecting the Display Driver, which is pretty bad because all my games are lagging because of this. When I start the computer, sometimes (not every time) Windows shows me an error saying "You must update your video BIOS for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 220". I know how to do it with nvflash, but the problem is I need a newer VBIOS with the same Subsystem ID (1462 1911) which I can't find anywhere. I found some in techpowerup.com but they're older than mine. If anyone can give me a newer VBIOS version with the same system number or knows another solution, please reply. But I'm guessing I'll have to buy a new one.

Yikes. I did a little Web searching, but only came up with an HP driver update that includes a BIOS update for a GT 220 card they sold. It looks about as old as a lot of the BIOSes at Techpowerup.

In the likely event that no one gives you a newer. compatible BIOS, you could try installing one from similar hardware but with a subsystem ID that does not match.

Older versions of NVFlash had some switches to permit bypassing the device ID checks. There are now hacked versions of NVFlash that don't need those switche:

I don't know whether they support the old cards as well.

Good thing I backed up my original one before doing it and that I have an integrated video. Now I'm looking up solutions on how to fix it, but can I do that with an IGP ? 'Cause I have to insert the card and restart in order to do that, but whenever I do it the screen goes black. But I guess there's probably no point in doing that since it'll show me the same error. I just found the Asus GeForce GT 610 2 GB for about 50$, which I'm probably going to buy.

I imagine that the motherboard automatically disables the onboard graphics when a discrete graphics card is plugged in. (That'd be normal for an appliance PC, like from HP.)

If you could stick the card in a different PC, you could probably reflash its BIOS. (No, I'm not volunteering one of mine.)

Seems unlikely.

Usually, when I look up the specs for an appliance PC with a discrete graphics card, its PSU is rated below the value recommended by the graphics card maker. I imagine that such PCs run reliably.

GT220: 58W max
E7400: 65W max

Actually, I was told that the video card was bought separately because the PC originally didn't have one. I'm not completely sure if that is the case, though. Anyway, I'm just thinking about buying a new one for now. But there's one problem, my PC is using a small slim case and I can only plug in video cards of this size:

It's a low profile card. If you're in the US, see:

The above link is to a result of a power search, so I'm not sure how long it might be valid. If you need to repeat it, my criteria: new card, low profile or low profile ready, Direct X 11 through 12 checked.

(Newegg also does business in Canada and the UK.) You may choose to buy elsewhere, but I find them a good resource for finding what parts are available.

The nVidia 710 cards max out at 18W, so that ought to be pretty safe.

But unfortunately I'm not from the US, so I can't order it from Newegg. And I can't find it in the online stores from my country. Guess, I'll have to order it from Ebay. But anyway, I'm not so sure about my power supply though, it's only 270 Ws. Will it be able to run this card without any issues ?

The GT 610 is rated at 29W maximum. I wouldn't worry that the PSU is a little below the generic 300W recommendation.
