I had that this morning on one of my monitors.

That's also happened to me several times, but only with Firefox and Edge. Getting out of whichever and restarting it solved the problem. I did have a few lockups that I had to hit reset for. The screen was still visible, but nothing worked. Don't know how much was NVIDIA and how much was Windows 10 CU.

No problems here with version 381.78. I'm either lucky or there's a disaster just arund the corner :)

I chatted with Nvidia this morning and it was suggested that I try connecting both my monitors to the GTX video card instead of having one connected to the Intel onboard video. Everything boots up fine now but that does not mean the problem has been fixed. It may be a work around for me. Hopefully it will continue to boot up fine.

Now I can merge the two monitors into one 3840 x 1200, I wonder what that will go to my gaming.

Two days in a row now, I've had my initial Windows boot end with a black screen with a banner of graphical artifacts across the top. I was thinking it may have been because of the OC on my GPU, but now I'm thinking it might be the drivers.

Probably best to reinstall the drivers you were running previously and see if that cures the problem. Or uninstall the current driver using DDU and reinstall the latest driver and see what happens.

Mine does the same when I have one monitor connected via DisplayPort. If I hit the reset button it boots properly. I also discovered that if I connect a second monitor via HDMI on the graphics card is also boots up properly. I definitely think it is the fault of the driver but I don't want to go back to the driver I had before the big Creator Update.

I have a case open with Nvidia.

This Hot Fix Driver is only supposed to be used on Notebooks that were having the problem.

That's not correct Josey, the fix built into them is to get rid of the black screen problem on laptops but they are compatible with PCs.

Then you had better inform Nvidia

This is GeForce Hot Fix driver version 381.78 that addresses the following issue:

-Fixes Windows 10 Creators Update booting to a black screen on certain notebooks

Driver is available for download from the following URL:
    http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4453

More information about Hot fix drivers:

A GeForce driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, We have an army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are checked into the main driver branches, which are eventually run through a massive QA process and released.

Since we have so many changes being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases. This process has served us pretty well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver.

The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down.

To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out.

These HotFix drivers represent a lot of additional work by our engineering teams, I hope they provide value for you. We’ll try it out and see if people like the idea and want us to continue.
