Why does MS make manually installing my Nvidia drivers so frustrating? After I've uninstalled the old driver, booted into safe mode and run DDU, then booted back to normal mode to install the new driver there is always a contest with Microsoft wanting to install it's Nvidia drivers. Funnily Event viewer shows the MS version installation failed.

I still have found no reliable way to stop MS installing Nvidia drivers from Windows Update when I uninstall my drivers. Does anybody else face this??

My understanding of DDU, when run in safe mode, is that it sets a flag to prohibit Windows from updating the driver. That is supposed to give you time to install the current NVidia one. @OldMike65 or @Josey Wales have more experience with it than I do. Maybe they can confirm/deny my .01% knowledge of it!

Same here TC, works for me that way also. Never had a problem with MS trying to install any Nvidia drivers. I always make sure I have the new updated drivers from Nvidia ready to install, after removing them with DDU.

I have the very same problem. I have tried some things in my thread (see opening post) but it didn't help for me, perhaps it would at your end? In addition to the fixes mentioned in my thread, try disabling the following in the Group Policy:

Guys, I need help with testing something out

I have the 398.36 WHQL drivers and every time I close Windows Media Player, an App crash pops up in the Reliability history of Windows.

I noticed that this problem goes away when I install the latest 399.07 WHQL drivers, but these drivers give me black screens and Livekernel events 141. I'm running Windows 10 Pro x64. I have tried wmp troubleshooters, dism and sfc /scannow commands, disabling en enabling WMP in the Windows Features and clean installing Windows.

Hence I was really wondering if anyone with the 398.36 WHQL drivers could try and test out if this problem with Windows Media Player also happens at their end.

I had the same problem a while back and contacted Wagnard the author of DDU. He admitted that this problem does occur ocasionally after using DDU.
The way round it is simple, before using DDU make sure you have a copy of the driver version you want to install saved on your computer then disconnect the PC from the internet. Run DDU, reboot and install the driver you previously downloaded. Then reconnect the machine to the internet.

That is correct TC. That little program has never failed me.
